As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to create authentic content for 17+ experiences because any assets with mature themes like mild swearing or references to alcohol get moderated out, even when they’re only intended for age-appropriate games.
When developers want to make mature experiences they need assets like voice lines that would naturally include some swearing, images with text that might have the f-word, or references to things like beer in a bar setting. The problem is that when you try to upload this kind of content, it gets rejected by moderation even though it would only be used in a 17+ rated experience where this content is supposed to be allowed. This creates a weird disconnect where the experience itself can have mature themes but all the assets have to be completely sanitized.
This makes it really hard to create things like realistic war games where soldiers would naturally use some strong language, etc.
The solution would be having a separate category for 17+ assets (audio, images, decals, etc.) that can only be uploaded and used in experiences with that rating. When you upload an asset, there could be an option to mark it as 17+ content. Once marked as 17+ it can’t be unmarked, and it would be sent to moderators with a note that it’s only intended for use in 17+ games. Those assets would be restricted so they can’t load in experiences rated for younger audiences, they would just fail to load if someone tried to use them in a non-17+ game.
