spam is such a massive problem for roblox because of the amount of players who are young, fairly new to the internet, and naive, which makes them incredibly susceptible to phishing scams. to combat a similar problem with their own userbase, in 2006, runescape released a low-level dungeon which involved players talking to NPC’s, fighting monsters, and answering questions about account security. if players progressed through the dungeon far enough, which could only be by answering questions correctly on how to keep their account safe from scams, they were rewarded items. it sounds… kind of silly, to say the least. its definitely a bit out there. but guess what: when i was 7, i played through that dungeon, i got my fancy boots, and do you know how many people stole my account? 0 people
so what if we developed a linear experience that involved talking to NPC’s to learn about account security, have some sort of interactive element that keeps it exciting (fighting monsters, for example) then rewarding players free items at the end? to ensure that the majority of newer players see and play through the game, we could have it appear in the events section on the website for players who have yet to earn the items, or go even further by artificially placing it at the top popular section on the games page, or use a popup notification, or a mix of all those, to make sure that the majority of players end up completing the game and learning how to keep their account safe. if a player is too young to be able to complete the experience, they’re probably too young to even figure out how to copy and paste a phishing site link
PS: make the free items look really cool
