A Roblox mid-2010 replication made by me, recorded in a HyperCam 2

This is a video of my current replica in Roblox Studio. This is beta and some features look a bit off from the original Roblox, but don’t mind.
Also, my bad about the quality of the video (Unregistered HyperCam 2). I just like the whole “2010 recording” aesthetic after all. Anyway, check it out!

What do you think? Feedback’s cool, but honestly I’m just vibing with it.

Looks pretty accurate! It would probably be more difficult to get 100% accurate materials though, as custom ones aren’t entirely accurate even with the original texture files. I also don’t know how you’d figure out beveled blocks either, let alone stencil shadows.

Good. Clever to use old third-party software users woulda used for Roblox back in the day. A bit of retro advice I can give is that since users used to play on a bigger capped FPS with lower resolution, you can reinforce this on Windows through the Compatibility Tab on the Properties Window of the Roblox App used to run the client player software and/or through Display Settings on your default Windows OS or the GPU Software like Nvidia for example. Third party apps have also experimented methods of reintroducing similar features, even with things such as FFlags, and not to mention third party shaders to make it look and feel more retro as well.

Annex: You can also cap your ping upload ms and download ms so that the network you have connected to Roblox is more retro-like too. These are all user customizable options.

retrostudio does it by using meshes with bones, not that complicated
many ways to do it

im pretty sure i saw a community resource for that before

Except, it’s not really accurate. In fact textures don’t even apply correctly on RetroStudio’s “beveled” blocks. Their textures don’t even have bumpmaps to it either, where they’re entirely flat with zero depth when classic textures absolutely had this.

I know exactly what thread you’re referencing, and trust me it is not at all the same thing as the classic stencil shadowing, this just straight up isn’t achievable on Roblox anymore with actual usable performance as far as I’m aware.

Hey, I’m back. Just a side note, I even included metallic rendering for the Character, despite on low quality. Just in case anybody’s curious

Looks cool!
Those big buttons from the Roblox Topbar CoreGui do ruin the view a bit :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Thanks for pointing me out. You want me to keep the bump maps as I did in the video? I realized with the bump maps, it made some weird anisotropic filtering where the textures become “black” from distance. But this is different apart from other replications in Roblox, so personally, I’d still do it, despite the bugs. What do you think, Negative?

Yeah yeah I know , but hey it’s just a screenshot ¯\(ツ)/¯

He was replying in reference to a game separate from the example you were showing

Got it. The modern Roblox CoreGui topbar you see in the video. Yeah, it’s pretty annoying

Yeah, beveled blocks are a pain so far, but I have an idea, however… this might require a lot of Parts to even begin with.:light_bulb:

My bad for plenty of replies  but anyway, here’s what the Chat bar and button could visually look like. Even added a bit of character to the Character, talk about a coincidence:

It’s pretty tough to grab the exact Chat button from the actual client, but I figured out the green one (clicked version; .dn).
