for example /ban username-userid reason and /unban username-userid
I know you can implement this on your own already but it would be cool native addition to the existing ban api
It would be useful for game mods who got permissions in my group to access ban api thru the website
edit: im saying this because its impossible to mobile users to do that thru the mobile app and they have to go to their browser just to login so it would be very nice feature for mobile users who got in-game mod perms
feature bloat is defined as adding too many secondary functions that obscure the primary tool which is exactly what this is
adding this feature would also take at minimum a few weeks to ship as this isn’t a user change but a feature addition therefore it must go through all the bureaucratic steps to ship features and through multiple teams as well (teams such as games, internal coreui/chat, etc.) then be approved and shipped to production
but feel free to explain how adding this isn’t bloat, just remember that in order to add this feature time is taken away from any other feature that the team behind the ban API handles.
Can you link to the documentation for whatever engine method allows scripts to retrieve a user’s permissions within the current game? Sure it may take “60 seconds” to handle this if you’re hardcoding perms or doing some other not as simple to translate cross-game way of handling perms.
Having a built-in command that handles this integrated directly with the website permissions would be monumentally more convenient and valuable.
Flow needed: Parse all roles and permissions with a free proxy > store all rank ids with ban permissions in a table > cache users rank upon join > check if their cached rank is allowed to ban, if so allow them to use ban commands
All in all can be done within a minute or two, Roblox has great documentation on the newer APIs. Let me know if this helped/if this is what you meant
The proxy step can actually be skipped here, looking at Roblox’s API whitelist for HTTPService shows that this endpoint is allowed to be used in games with an API key.
i like the part where roblox doesnt allow me to check if the user has a rank from the new rank system it only allows me to check the legacy roles
thats why this feature request exists because i would have to give the moderators not 1 role but 2 roles one from legacy ranking and second with ban api perms from new ranking system
either they fix that small flaw or just make it a built-in command
edit 1: ok so in engine apis only allow me to check legacy roles of a person and i need to use opencloud just to check user roles from the new system which is a dumb flaw i don’t like this at all
edit 2: the player:GetRoleInGroup functions are deprecated so you can just use GroupService to get someones roles only from legacy system tho it doesn’t show the roles from the new ranking system (this is a flaw that could be fixed on engine side easiely)
Yep I find it dumb that you gotta use opencloud instead of just having native in-engine solution for this
Anyways im going to keep this feature request open since i wanna see roblox evolve and have their own native admin commands /ban and /unban for game moderators that got permissions thru the creator hub
edit 3: actually according to this admin we cannot see ranks from the new ranking system even thru opencloud
awesome job roblox so i have to use that stupid workaround of ranking someone in both systems the legacy ranking system and new ranking system just to mark them as game mod so i can give them perms to my hypothetical /ban and /unban commands if i ever made those
yep exactly its just 2 slash commands and the entire devforum is party poopers instantly jumping me for just suggesting such simple thing as 2 slash commands that would be actually useful and roblox would evolve from “grab an admin system from toolbox” to “hey use our simple native banning system with native ban/unban slash commands”
We’re unifying the Creator Hub and Community role systems soon (next few weeks, before RDC), and then all the engine / Open Cloud APIs will work with all roles.
