[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

Roblox is most likely more worried about this whole lawsuit than actually thinking logically? I am not super sure.

This is stupid, the privacy part is one thing, but why are you setting all existing audios longer than 6 seconds to be private automatically. Most old users aren’t gonna log back on and if they do they probably won’t set their audios to public. Your pretty much taking away are entire audio library. The annoying part is that even though there’s hundreds of other developers saying this exact thing, I know Roblox is still gonna go through with it.

Good points. The short deadline and upload limit is ridiculous for sure. The only thing these devs can do to protect their game is go through their scripts and make sure they don’t break due to missing audio, and try to find substitute audio, even if its just temporary.

I’d rather have a silent game than a broken game.

I’d rather not have any of these issues, but we got em.

It really shouldn’t. I can’t believe all it takes is one lawsuit, and Roblox just loses it. If it gets really bad we still have unity, and itch.io as replacements

People are just upset about this update. I’m upset about it, people with boombox gamepasses are upset about it, we’re all upset about it in some way. The way Roblox is handling this update is probably making people upset enough to threaten to leave Roblox.

I slightly disagree with this; A lot of older updates didn’t seem to be that massively harmful in the long term, but tampering with audios in the way Roblox is doing now probably would be. Yeah, there were worse ones out there, but this one feels specially rotten.

I don’t think anybody is. We’re all in the dark here

Exactly. As an example, BSlick makes music for Piggy (aka MiniToon’s game). So, are you literally not going to allow developers to use that audio?

Roblox could’ve given us like a month at least. But 2 weeks isn’t enough time. There’s games like Jailbreak. Just think about the sounds. Like, each of the vehicle has it’s own sound. Not vehicles only, but weapons, footsteps etc.

Roblox really don’t wanna get sued by a couple hundred million dollars again.

Pretty much, you could say that, they don’t want copyrighted music in their platform.

Understandable mate. Take layered clothing as an example. First, when we heard and saw a picture of layered clothing on an RTHRO avatar, we were like “Here we go again.” And the entire Roblox community was really upset with what they’ve done. But later, we have seen that R15 users were also able to use it. And it was optional so we didn’t have to worry about this update forcing on us.

But the audio update is forced on everybody, and they’re not even giving us a refund? This is not an “Ok Ok we’re gonna fix this” situation anymore, because we all know, they’re always lazy to fix stuff like avatar items (example).

I might be wrong, but I think this whole issue could have been delayed or prevented if ROBLOX really stepped up on their copyright bot?

This is possibly the most detrimental thing to the playerbase of Roblox, even as a normal player. PLEASE do not push out this update, I highly advise against it. Find another solution or cancel it entirely.

And since that didn’t really happen, look where it got us now. In a corner, having to most likely deal with this massive change that could most likely affect small → popular developers. I really demand a reason why we are so restricted now. We can’t even pay for audios after hitting the limit, why is the limit so low? Not to mention that special people who ID verify/randomly get the benefit of 2000 uploads are less likely to worry about them hitting the limit (sometimes). It deeply saddens me that we haven’t been updated at all. No feedback or anything. Being left in the dark so much about a lot of issues really makes me reconsider my entire choice of being a developer. :frowning:

I honestly got to agree that this is the most damaging update Roblox has ever seen. And it is pretty damaging to the site. Roblox is going to be a lot boring, if people cant use each other’s audios

Making audios private that weren’t private in the first place is bad idea in the first place. I hope the entire closing the library is temporary. I seriously depend on the library for sounds.

and as well you have to remember most users have also stayed because they grew up with the platform and now since a year ago roblox has been trying to completely change the platform to something else that is isnt

Amazing man thanks hopefully i can reupload some audios

I think that was mainly because of the bad first impressions people were left with when they first revealed it, especially in a climate where Rthro is still really seen as a novelty at best and annoyance to most players. Layered clothing seems really fun, but it’s still sorta rough around the edges here and there that needs to be ironed out.
I feel like there’s kinda a line that has to be crossed for a update to be considered REALLY harmful; And if you couldn’t tell by my thoughts on this update, I feel like this update crossed that line. While updates like layered clothing and builder’s club turning into premium didn’t really hurt in the long run and people got used to it quickly enough, the rash decisions made for the Roblox audio update could leave a fallout that could linger on for years.

If this entire update was about allowing more control of who can use audios was it, then this update could be a success. Except they are going to remove 90% of the library from developers who rely on it. and then add a no fee (which could have been great, if it wasn’t for them removing the option to pay for them when hitting max uploads.) which makes developers wait for a month just to be able to use another 10 uploads (if they were only provided with 10). It’s unfair, we deserve to be heard. Someone in the staff team should have seen what’s going on in this thread. At least… That’s what I hope that’s the case…

Roblox is really putting ol’ uncle Jerry’s shotgun up to their head with this new update.

For real though, who at roblox thought privating all sound assets over six seconds AND limiting us to 10-100 audio uploads a month would benefit the platform in any way?

I know there was a lawsuit and stuff but, Roblox is a billion dollar company. Couldn’t they think of a better way to deal with this?

They could’ve hired some bright minds to find a creative solution for this, they could even put a LED strip in their head to make their minds even brighter.

But no, roblox decided to push out a #### update that could possibly lead to some big games losing massive amounts of players. Some older games where the developer doesn’t work on them anymore are going to suffer. A lot.

They should at least let us use audios not uploaded by us, remove the allowed upload limit per month, DONT PRIVATE ALL AUDIOS. Hmmmm, but wait, that sounds like the whole update. I wonder why

If bigger developers can shut down their game for long enough, roblox will lose so much profit that they’ll have no other choice but to reverse this update.

Roblox is nothing without its developers, so they should treat us better

Audio has always been being copyrighted? You do know big emote games bypass their system.

Uploaded an audio more than 18 hours ago and its still not moderated.
I guess this “update” made the moderation queue longer than ever. Good job.

It’s sad to know how poorly us developers get treated with these updates. Like some us spend so much time just to make something fun for others to play. Something for others to pass their time on. Why can’t we be treated fairly?
