Adaptive R6 Testing and Showcase

I am making this forum as to move the discussion from the forum “Completing the Dynamic Head Migration”. I was testing Adaptive R6 in Roblox Studio, and made a test place for it. Here you can try out the Adaptative R6 Animations. I don’t have any morphs for these, but you can also find some R15 to R6 packages on the Roblox Catalog made by user “dvdko” that you can test in this game as well. Pairing these packages with the adaptive r6 makes it look almost identical to basic R6.

Keep in mind that this is most likely a WIP, as the setting for me was kind of “out-of-the-way” to toggle. You can toggle it in your own games by going to Avatar Settings, forcing R15, and finding the “Animation Packs” tab and forcing R6 animations.

Here are the links to dvdko’s packages:

i think the only issue i see, besides the fact that the rig is still r15 behavior

the jumping has the arms ODDLY high

besides that, it’s actually passable ESPECIALLY with a package

I agree. The only 3 issues I notice with it:

  • Arms go oddly high on jump.
  • Climbing is heavily sped up.
  • Most importantly, it still uses 15 limbs and would break games coded around R6.

If Roblox can fix these 3 issues, I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to continuing use for the platform if R6 were to be removed. I mean, I’d prefer it NOT to be removed, but if it were to be, and we got this instead, I wouldn’t be that upset. If any of you guys are coders/gamdevs (Which I assume you are, considering we are on the DevForum) I’d recommend giving your games support for both R6 and R15 in their code now if it hasn’t been supported already. That’ll prevent them from breaking if/when they force R15.

Now if they force us to use 3D Clothing? I can’t really say the same.

Well here is the thing, you can use the DoguR15 rig (which gets rid of the weird ridges and makes it smooth) and then use R6 animations so the rig will still look and act like classic R6, despite being R15.

I see! I personally won’t add this to the testing place, but its a good resource to have for developers who want to emulate R6! dvdko’s packages also work very well for this, even better since there is no visible creases in the body, sadly though it costs 165 Robux per package.

The look here isn’t 1:1, and it probably won’t ever be since Roblox hasn’t added proper mesh deformation to R15 by default still. Eventually, Roblox is also going to force other avatar features and changes that nobody wanted, such as layered clothing. The dynamic faces change is just the start of this nonsense.

My takeaway is that developers shouldn’t bother adapting to this change, and should instead just start creating their own avatar systems independent of Roblox’s. Create something that Roblox can’t touch. Give your players a robust catalog of options, or let them upload decals for classic clothing and the like.

If enough developers adopt an approach like this and turn it into the norm, then Roblox will stop making as much money off of avatar customization sales, since most avatars will be created as a free part of a game. If a system like this could be unified between games, it’d be even better, as players wouldn’t have to remake their avatar every time they join a new game.

Sure. It sounds dramatic, but Roblox will always follow the money. Developers hold more power than the players in this context because you do have control over what avatars players can wear in your games. This is an excellent chance to protest these changes and it’d be a shame if everyone wasted it by just rolling with the punches and trying to “adapt.”

I agree, but I think this WIP system is a step in the right direction. Yes, it isn’t 1:1. But its a lot closer to it than the “1:1” that the Dynamic Heads were said to have, AND its still a WIP that can be improved upon.

I agree that it would also be a good idea to make an independent system. I want to make it clear I am against the removal of R6, and this forum is solely for the purpose of showcasing the WIP Adaptive R6 system they have.

if i recall correctly, there was a game did use r6 animations for r15, and it was a sword fighting game. i will try finding it, and when i do i will send it here

Took me awhile but I found it, and it has 3d clothing included also, very off-putting looking back at it.

I’ll probably leave the game up for the next 3 or 4 days and then private it, since it really doesn’t do much and was made in 15 minutes lol. If you guys want to make your own you can, its really easy to toggle the Adaptive R6 in the Avatar Configuration Menu. Just force R15, Click the bottom button, and then enable “R6 Animations”.

This isn’t what I meant. I meant using R6/R15 assets, reuploaded, independently of the official Roblox avatar infrastructure.

What

My main gripe about this entire update is that it still has those weird indentations of the R15 character. The smoothness of R6 is why I prefer it, and will always prefer over R15, or this new shitass dynamic R6.

I will not adapt to dynamic R6. I’ll just make something custom to keep the look of the current R6, if they ever do remove it.

I also prefer the smoothness and consistency of the regular R6. I will always prefer regular, classic R6 over anything else. All this forum is doing is showing the differences, similarities, and overall experience of the WIP Adaptive/Dynamic R6. I think its a lot closer to a 1:1 then the “1:1” the dynamic faces have. It still isn’t exactly 1:1 (more like 1:0.85) but its still a WIP so I wouldn’t be surprised if they went back and made some tweaks. Also, if you prefer the smoothness, it may cost robux, but dvdko’s R6 Emulator Body Packages bring back that smoothness your looking for while still being in R15!

I ended up putting the game on private sooner than I had expected. Its really easy to enable it though if you wanna toggle it in studio. All you have to do is:

  • Go to Avatar Settings for your game
  • Toggle “Force R15” (should be on by default when making a new baseplate)
  • Go to the bottom button that looks like 2 diamonds, find “Animation Packs” and toggle “Standard R6” (as seen below)
  • Done! set up an area and test it

My game was crude and didn’t really have much to it. I didn’t see a point in hosting it for much longer. Sorry for the inconvenience!

One thing I’ve noticed when testing this new system, along with the differences previously mentioned (faster climbing animation, jumping causing arms to go higher than normal, and of course the glaring issue of this breaking games coded around the R6 body type only) is that your characters torso, head, and arms go slightly forward during the downwards sway of the idle animation. Its subtle, but once you see it its kind of hard to un-see. I don’t doubt they’d fix this though.

It’s good that there’s a package out there that fixes that, but I’d much rather Roblox avoid this issue in the first place.

I guess knowing their track record I will ultimately have to buy that package, lol.
