The Problem
As a Roblox developer, it is currently too difficult to quickly take high-quality (i.e. resolution) screenshots of my game.
I often need these screenshots to make things such as game thumbnails, game icons, backpack icons, social media posts, promo materials, etc.
Current Workarounds
In order to get these screenshots today, one has to either…
A) Stay in Studio, close ALL plugin tabs, maximize the viewport with fullscreen mode, enter run/play mode, take a screenshot.
OR
B) Publish the game, play it on a device with a high resolution, take a screenshot.
Issues with workarounds
- Both: AFAIK, there is no way to get a higher resolution screenshot than what the window/device renders
- Both: The viewport/device size may not be typical dimensions or high enough resolution
- Both: Parts of the Studio/core UI may still appear
- Both: Time-consuming and tedious
- Workaround A: Closing all plugins in Studio gets rid of your UI layout every time you wish to enter/exit this flow
- Workaround B: Taking a screenshot at runtime may not be always desired
- Workaround B: Publishing may not be ideal if an update is not ready for players; risks leaking stuff early
The Ask
Add an option to Studio that allows you to take a screenshot of where the camera viewport is currently located at a specified resolution.
Said resolution should be able to be higher than whatever the window size or device monitor size is.
As example, Fortnite has this for UEFN which is a LIFESAVER.
Why Important
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because I could spend less time and frustration getting these screenshots for all the aforementioned purposes.
This gap is unironically and genuinely the biggest time sink and my least favorite workflow when it comes to publishing a game and content updates.
