Currently on Roblox many kids rage quit early into a game or bots review bomb games too often.
So I have seen the idea go around, and I think it is a smart idea.
Players would have to play the game for a set amount of time before giving the game a review.
I think a good time would be 15-30 minutes, as for rage games, kid will rage quit before that.
I had this idea a couple of years ago and I fully support it.
Players should not be able to rate Experiences until they have an accumulated playtime of somewhere around 15 minutes. The main problem with the current system is – like OP had mentioned – bot accounts, trolls, ragequitters, and competitors abusing it:
Bots: self-explanatory – used for skewing the overall rating into positive oblivion
Trolls: someone sends their personal army after an Experience and rates it negatively out of spite
Ragequitters: players who become frustrated with the gameplay and give up, ultimately coming to the conclusion that the Experience is bad
Competitors: a very common occurrence in the transportation community where a group of developers sends both their team and their playerbase over to a similar Experience and rate it poorly as an attempt to eliminate the competition (I speak from experience as a victim…)
The only issue that I could see happening with a delayed rating system is the owner kicking or banning the player(s) before the time limit is reached in order to prevent them from rating, which can still skew the overall rating of the Experience.
Yes, I’ve never understood why the game has such a rating, but when I played, I realized that there are players who resent the game because they lose and dislike it in a rage.
Fair criticism, requiring a 20 minute playtime is completely fair before rating something to ensure proper criticism, but it does conflict with how other sites don’t time gate this sort of thing. Still, it wouldn’t hurt.
