As most of you are aware, recently Roblox has announced limiting FFlags that can be set on the client. This is to reduce abuse and cheating that occurs as a result of changing/setting some flags.
While this is a very welcome change, some flags frequently used by the community are not on this list. These flags pose no danger to other users, as they only affect the client they’ve been modified in.
Additionally, some UI related FFlags, if they will be continued, should still be allowed on the client.
For example: FFlagEnableV3Menu.
These flags provide a better experience for users, while not disturbing others. Performance and UI related flags, if they will have continuous use, should always be allowed in the Engine.
Yes they should DEFINITELY add these FastFlags:
“DFFlagSkipHighResolutiontextureMipsOnLowMemoryDevices”
“DFFlagSkipHighResolutiontextureMipsOnLowMemoryDevices2”
I can’t post into feature requests, but since you already listed the FastFlags I wanted in here, I’ll explain why they are really needed.
Without them, all the materials and textures look very very blurry on my iPad, and I would probably just buy a whole new iPad. Which I don’t want to do all just because they randomly decided to make the textures show worser. I don’t care as much about the performance, random crashes, lag, etc, I just want clearer textures that I can actually see.
They made the materials and textures show very blurry a year ago for so many devices with no option at all to change them back.
In my opinion, they should either always allow those fastflags, or add an option in the settings to change it(Which would be much much better and easier, since I know A LOT of people that have this issue.)
Here are a few other people experiencing the blurry textures with no way to change them:
That’s just a few people experiencing this issue, there are MANY more. Even some of my friends using new devices that have great performance are experiencing this.
Here are my textures before and after setting those FastFlags:
I didn’t even have to search hard to find this game, I just joined my friend in it one time and I ran into that issue, I had to play it on my computer instead. When I put in those FastFlags, it made the game playable again, no crashes, no lag, absolutely nothing wrong. It worked perfectly fine. It even ran at 60 FPS.
There are actually problems that can go wrong with not having this as a setting or a fastflag, such as decals that use text, you can’t read them at all because they’re blurry, since Roblox decided to lower the texture quality for your device, even if your device is completely capable of using higher quality textures.
What if there aren’t many textures in the game? Your device won’t crash, or lag, it will work just fine. It should be an option, or at least just a FastFlag.
its absolutely a bug when my device has 64GB of ram, Roblox developers are having a laugh if they think that’s a device that can even HAVE a lack of available memory.
Its been years since I first reported the material and texture compression ####ing up, and its just outrageous that they think its okay to leave in a bug that makes games to just look AWFUL. Any half-competent organisation would immediately rollback the change that caused it, but nope Roblox just ignore the hundreds of bugs their lackluster QA neglects to catch and thus gets into the live version of the platform / engine.
Yes I agree, there’s definitely problems with it. I’ve recently sometimes even had the textures and materials get blurry on my computer with 16GB of ram.
I really think they should just make a way to change the texture/material quality in the settings, kind of like the options with the Graphics, maybe an “Automatic” option that does what it currently does, and a “Manual” option where you can manually set the texture/materials quality. It would definitely fix the problem for everyone that way.
This is also a problem for Linux devices. Linux devices usually use the Sober launcher to play Roblox unofficially, which launches the android version on roblox. The android version always assumes you have a low amount of memory for some reason. DFFlagTextureQualityOverrideEnabled and DFIntTextureQualityOverride do in fact something, they make the textures even lower quality if you set DFIntTextureQualityOverride below 3.
On the same machine, on Windows, the textures look like they should. But once I go over to Linux textures lose a lot of their colour range and quality because Roblox assumes all android and “android” devices have low amounts of memory. My guess is because memory on phones is shared RAM and VRAM so Roblox is a bit conservative when it comes to textures as it cannot predict what kind of game the engine will load. My PC is by no means weak I have 64gb of RAM and a 16GB of VRAM GPU. So I would like DFFlagSkipHighResolutiontextureMipsOnLowMemoryDevices and DFFlagSkipHighResolutiontextureMipsOnLowMemoryDevices2 as well.
