Hello people, so I wanted to try and start coding on Roblox again but I kinda forgot everthing so i need to relearn things again. But I want to make something where the character of the other player move in a direction (in this case up). This is for a fighting game. But I dont really know what is the best method for changing the characters position. I tried to use tween but that makes it laggy a bit. Let me know if you know a better way to do this and thanks a lot for helping.
If you want it to be procedural physics, you can just launch them with a velocity. If you want it to stay relatively connected to the character, you can use alignposition or alignorientation. i think for your case, the first is best.
Which one would you recommend for the general charater moving. So that I know what method I can go for when I want to do the same but in a other direction for example
For combat systems, you usually want to avoid tweening. It looks smooth, but it doesn’t play nicely with physics, so knockbacks or launches can feel fake or laggy.
Instead, stick with physics-based methods that interact naturally with the character. Some useful ones are:
HumanoidRootPart:ApplyImpulse() – good for quick bursts of force, like launching someone upward or knocking them back.
HumanoidRootPart:ApplyAngularImpulse() – if you want to spin/rotate them from a hit.
LinearVelocity / BodyVelocity – for more controlled or sustained pushes.
AssemblyLinearVelocity – to instantly set the whole character’s velocity.
These keep your combat tied to Roblox physics, so everything feels consistent and fair across clients.
No problem! For actual combat mechanics like knockbacks, launches, or hit reactions, tweens aren’t really useful because they don’t respect physics and can feel inconsistent or desync across clients. Tweens are great for visuals, but not for physics-based animations or gameplay.
Sorry for the late respond but it was for me to know when and what I should use when wanting to move a player. But already found what i needed unless you have more information you want to share.
