Advice for working with terrain

I recently started using terrain, and I already love it so far. However it’s a bit hard to use since I’m a beginner. So I’d like to get some advice from people who are more experienced, as well as any workarounds for the below restrictions.

The Brush tool size. Currently the smallest brush size is 1 and the smallest pivot position is “top”.
When I try to add to previous structures or use terrain in general, it feels chunky and way too thick.

Here’s an example: https://gyazo.com/58c3f2527d4acb3490d53b1308a407f0

It’s a bit over-the-top, but you get what I mean. I have to constantly keep trying to get an ideal thickness, or use “smooth” and “errode”, which just takes away too much.

Another problem for me, is trying to add terrain, from one angle but it goes the other way.
Let’s say I’m facing the side and I want to add some terrain upwards, whilst curving it to form some sort of U shape. When I do both, the terrain doesn’t get added vertically but rather tilts behind what you ideally want. It would really help if “snap to grid” had a X axis as well. This way I can have a U thats perfectly vertical. Basically terrain seems rather finicky to work with in the above case.

I know you have to experiment with the perspective to be able to achieve this, but yeh.

If you have any suggestions or workarounds, that would be much appreciated

This is because you’re looking at where you want to add terrain at an angle. Make sure to look at the grid when adding or subtracting terrain. If the grid is diagonal then the terrain will end up building diagonally as well

Sadly, this is just ROBLOX terrain being ROBLOX. There isn’t much you can do about it. However, to cover up some ugly corners I’d try adding a structure/doorway within the gap. Also, try making your holes a bit bigger.

For example, here’s a little doorway I made in my terrain to hide the weird corners.

Hope this helped!
