TL;DR
- Starting on March 18th, we’re rolling out age-based requirements for Community Forums and DevForum. This includes:
- Community Forums: You must be 13+ and complete an age check (Facial Age Estimation or ID Verification) to post, comment, or reply. You can still read and react to posts if you are 13+ but haven’t yet completed an age check.
- DevForum: DevForum has always been 13+ to login, but starting March 18 you must be age checked as 13+ to post, comment, or reply. You also need to be 18+ age checked to use Direct Messages or engage in the Collaboration category. Anyone can still read posts on DevForum even while logged out.
If you’ve already completed an age check to chat, you will not have to complete one again to participate in DevForum or in Community Forums.
Hi Creators,
To help ensure age-appropriate interactions and ensure consistent safety standards across Roblox, we are introducing age check requirements for DevForum and Community Forums. Starting on March 18th, users will need to be age checked and 13+ to post or comment.
If you’ve already completed an age check to chat, you’re all set; you won’t need to do it again. You do not need to complete an age check for every feature. Check out the details below for more on these changes and additional updates to both forum spaces.
Age checks to participate in Community Forums
To post, comment, or reply in Community Forums you must be 13+ and complete an age check.
- If you haven’t yet completed an age check, you’ll still be able to view and react to posts and comments. When you attempt to create a post or attempt to reply, you’ll be prompted to complete an age check.
- Once the age check is complete, you’ll be able to create new topics, comment, and reply immediately.
Age checks to participate in DevForum
On DevForum, we’ve always had a requirement to be age 13+ to log in. On March 18, we’re making the following updates:
-
You must be 13+ and complete an age check to log in to DevForum.
-
You must be 18+ and complete an age check to send and receive Direct Messages and participate in the Collaboration section (as the latter involves hiring activity).
-
We’re archiving the Lounge category to focus DevForum on technical collaboration and product feedback.
DevForum will still be viewable to any user, regardless of age check status.
FAQs
Q: Why are age checks being required now?
Our priority is safety. By requiring age checks, we can help ensure age appropriate interactions across Roblox.
Q: What happens if I don’t do an age check?
You can still browse the DevForum and Community Forums as a reader. However, you won’t be able to post, comment, or reply in either. You will also not be able to use private messaging features in DevForum.
Q: What happens if I’m placed in the wrong age group by an age check?
For users under 18, linked parents can correct the age of users who are put into the incorrect age group. 13+ users can also use government-issued photo IDs to correct and verify the age on their accounts with ID Verification.
Q: Will I still be able to communicate with Roblox Staff on DevForum if I’m under 18?
Yes, you will still be able to talk to Roblox Staff on forum threads, receive messages from Roblox Staff, and send us private messages via bug reports. [Edit 2/2 - Updated this answer for clarity]
Q: Why is the Lounge being archived?
DevForum is a resource for professional growth, technical help, and product feedback. The Lounge often hosts off-topic discussions that don’t align with that mission. Removing it helps us keep the community focused on building on Roblox.
