Age Requirements for DevForum & Community Forums

TL;DR

  • Starting on March 18th, we’re rolling out age-based requirements for Community Forums and DevForum. This includes:
    • Community Forums: You must be 13+ and complete an age check (Facial Age Estimation or ID Verification) to post, comment, or reply. You can still read and react to posts if you are 13+ but haven’t yet completed an age check.
    • DevForum: DevForum has always been 13+ to login, but starting March 18 you must be age checked as 13+ to post, comment, or reply. You also need to be 18+ age checked to use Direct Messages or engage in the Collaboration category. Anyone can still read posts on DevForum even while logged out.

If you’ve already completed an age check to chat, you will not have to complete one again to participate in DevForum or in Community Forums.

Hi Creators,

To help ensure age-appropriate interactions and ensure consistent safety standards across Roblox, we are introducing age check requirements for DevForum and Community Forums. Starting on March 18th, users will need to be age checked and 13+ to post or comment.

If you’ve already completed an age check to chat, you’re all set; you won’t need to do it again. You do not need to complete an age check for every feature. Check out the details below for more on these changes and additional updates to both forum spaces.

Age checks to participate in Community Forums

To post, comment, or reply in Community Forums you must be 13+ and complete an age check.

  • If you haven’t yet completed an age check, you’ll still be able to view and react to posts and comments. When you attempt to create a post or attempt to reply, you’ll be prompted to complete an age check.
  • Once the age check is complete, you’ll be able to create new topics, comment, and reply immediately.

Age checks to participate in DevForum

On DevForum, we’ve always had a requirement to be age 13+ to log in. On March 18, we’re making the following updates:

  • You must be 13+ and complete an age check to log in to DevForum.

  • You must be 18+ and complete an age check to send and receive Direct Messages and participate in the Collaboration section (as the latter involves hiring activity).

  • We’re archiving the Lounge category to focus DevForum on technical collaboration and product feedback.

DevForum will still be viewable to any user, regardless of age check status.

FAQs

Q: Why are age checks being required now?

Our priority is safety. By requiring age checks, we can help ensure age appropriate interactions across Roblox.

Q: What happens if I don’t do an age check?

You can still browse the DevForum and Community Forums as a reader. However, you won’t be able to post, comment, or reply in either. You will also not be able to use private messaging features in DevForum.

Q: What happens if I’m placed in the wrong age group by an age check?

For users under 18, linked parents can correct the age of users who are put into the incorrect age group. 13+ users can also use government-issued photo IDs to correct and verify the age on their accounts with ID Verification.

Q: Will I still be able to communicate with Roblox Staff on DevForum if I’m under 18?

Yes, you will still be able to talk to Roblox Staff on forum threads, receive messages from Roblox Staff, and send us private messages via bug reports. [Edit 2/2 - Updated this answer for clarity]

Q: Why is the Lounge being archived?

DevForum is a resource for professional growth, technical help, and product feedback. The Lounge often hosts off-topic discussions that don’t align with that mission. Removing it helps us keep the community focused on building on Roblox.

This ends my time on the forum. It was a nice part of my life.

What if we don’t put age checks on everything? They don’t make anything safer at all.

(as long as they complete an age check)

All of these resources spent on developing useless age checks that don’t improve safety could’ve been used to actually address the actual root causes for inappropriate behavior, like the multiple text filter bypasses, image bypasses and inappropriate games (that still exist), and develop solutions that actually work

All this does is encourage users to go off platform to achieve the same thing that could previously be done entirely on roblox.com. For example, one might use Discord to ask for help/suggest features/report bugs instead of using the community forums. This also makes community forums entirely useless, as going off-platform is instead much more convenient.

Google still exists btw, restricting social links to age checked users won’t do anything.

Roblox what the hell have you done?

NO!
This isn’t even about safety anymore, you are straight up CENSORING your community and fostering growth in dangerous groups. You are finding any way possible to make people submissive and obey you blindly so that you can yield your maximised profits.

lasted like 3 months only for it to be removed

It was only a matter of time before age verification hit the DevForum. Having to be 18+ to use DMs is awful! Were people getting groomed in DevForum DMs?

The removal of the lounge category is SOLELY the fault of newer users/trolls that primarily joined after 2023, with their extremely low quality and substanceless rage bait trolling posts.

Yeah I guess bro

Archiving the Lounge category - Cool, I always hated how it’s used by people here anyway. Spreading misinformation, making AI generated topics, making topics filled with memes, it was annoying as hell.
But adding age requirement to make a topic or help someone with their problem? Cmon Roblox, you can do better than that. There is no way someone used DevForum to lead a minor off-platform where he continued his mischievous plan.

At this rate, make Roblox studio age restricted to expand your age verification agenda.

Meh. Obviously this is a terrible idea but maybe the trolling will finally stop. 18+ to use DMs is ridiculous though.

Sad that this is the fate of development discussion. I always liked it but I guess this is why we can’t have nice things. The self-proclaimed “rage baiters” and trolls have nobody to blame but themselves. I’d put more, but judging by Roblox’s reception to literally everything as of late there’s no chance this is being reverted. Good work to all of the people who caused this.

LOUNGE IS GONE
this is a debatable update otherwise, i think it will be divided, as its not just children causing havoc on here, but “rage baiters” will be gone for the most part! Im annoyed about the 18+ for DMs, as it is nice to continue a conversation about development on dms.

This got to be rage bait atp

I really don’t understand what age has to do with developer forums.

You CANNOT BE SERIOUS Bro… First chat, now roblox studio and now DEVFORUMS?

Bro, THIS IS VIOLATING THE PRIVACY FOR ALL DEVELOPERS ON THIS. If you continue to ruin your own platform, that’s not our problem, that’s yours. Either remove Age checks or let people leave your platform. This is simple.

Bro what is the point of adding that in 2025 and remove that in 2026 :sob: Are you stupid or something?

For as long as they exist, the nightmare lives on. A multi-billion dollar company that can’t be reached, or contacted through support, speaking of safety whilst blackmailing youngsters into giving their biometric or governmental data.

PS As for the quality of the forum itself, who indirectly caused that?
We now again all pay the price for terrible decisions that facilitate and open the door for misuse. It’s as having a club and suddenly letting anyone in, only to then shut it down completely because the quality standards have “suddenly” dropped. Instead it’s the existing members that face the consequences…
