I’ve always been frustrated as a scripter by the delays of waiting for effects to be done. So I created an AI that allows me to generate particles from a prompt/description. All training data are custom made.
Although it’s not very impressive yet, it is good enough for me to use as placeholders, or to provide these as references/templates so others can make the actual effects faster.
People now a days are getting the word Ai very confused with “something” generator.
Other than this not being Ai I think it’s pretty cool, I can definitely see how it can save a lot of time especially as I’m not much of a VFX person either.
The textures shown are selected from a list of textures by the AI, this is for two reasons: quality and safety. Everything else is determined and generated by the AI.
I’ve recently finished up the demo. I’ll share it here, let me know if there are any issues when you’re testing it, and feel free to share what you generated with it.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: I hate AI!! We’re all worried about it taking over our jobs, but then we accelerate it! AI is sucking the creativity and critical skills we need to make a successful game. Now all we need are a few prompts and we’ve made the next million dollar game
This is an actually useful tool for VFX, much better compared to more serious uses of AI that can replace jobs, as VFX designers are still very much ahead here. Most AI’s are just currently setting a quality bar with practically infinite quantity, compared to humans that offer higher quality but are harder to find + will require monetary compensation.
That might be true, but instead of viewing AI as a threat that will steal our jobs, why not view it as a useful tool? It’s true that game development is made much easier with AI, but not any random dude would be able to create a million dollar game just using AI. We still need imagination, creativity, and a lot of knowledge of scripting. (litterally yesterday, I used Claude 3.5 Sonnet, the best AI for coding, and it made lots of mistakes that I would not be able to fix without scripting knowledge).
