Hello, currently I am part of a group thats trying to add more the cart ride game genre bout making it more interactive. My issue is playtime difference between mobile and pc. On my pc I get an average playtime at about 10 mins while on mobile it sits at 7 mins. Im wondering if anyone could provide feedback on improving the game!
I’m not sure if games like this can get increased playtime in all honesty. It’s just a cart ride game. Most people will leave once they get bored. Especially if someone is trolling and ruining other peoples fun.
Trolling is exactly a way to increase the time! If you put some non-game breaking tools in the end of the railway, that deals some damage or can be used to sabotage other players, the players will be much more tempted to finish the track, and stay a bit.
I never viewed it like that. It does make a lot of sense
As was mentioned above Trolling can be a factor for people leaving.
Now to increse playtime you can add more interaction like pressing “e” to dodge a fallen wood etc.
(I haven’t played and I don’t know the gameplay so if I say something you have ignore it)
Give rewards when people finish, make them to like buy more carts with speed boosts, have generally more speed.
From PDF_1727’s perspective I’ll agree.
Look at some of TrueStar’s old cart ride tycoon games. They basically merged the tycoon and cart ride genres. Similarly maybe you could try combine multiple genres too?
Another idea could be giving players their own cart which they could customize.
I watched a YouTuber the other day play someones cart ride game and observed some interesting behaviors. First they attempted to spawn a cart but failed multiple times as other players would keep respawning the carts. This is definitely a frustration point in the game were players are likely to leave. Once the cart was commandeered they were unaware that the red button was in fact a clickable button. Again this is a point were players are likely to leave due to confusion. After messing around and derailing a few times, they look up and essentially say “wow that’s a lot of track, it will take so long to finish, I’m out.”.
My ultimate suggestion is to collect as much data as you can. Try to figure out when and where in your game players are leaving. What are the points in your game where players are deciding to leave?
A lot of developers try to solve problems without really knowing what the problems are.
