Allow developers to force a render distance

As a roblox developer, it is currently too hard to have big set pieces, or bigger enemies / bosses without having them disappear if the player has a render distance of 1 - 2. this is a big issues since low end devices will probably require a 1-2 graphics quality on some games, and they basically cannot play the game as the enemy cannot be seen, and therefore gives a massive difficulty spike.

imo, forcing higher graphics quality might make the game even harder for low end devices (the ones that NEED to go on graphics level 1-2 just to run)

when i used to play mc pvp on my 2019 macbook, graphics were all the way down, 2 chunk render distance. i’d take performance over far visibility any day. (this point depends on the game a bit though)

maybe custom minimum device requirements for games would be a better alternative…

i meant a longer render distance, not a higher graphical quality. if a device is on level 1-2 level 3, which i think maxs out the render distance also activates a buncha other lighting stuff that further slow down the low end device

that’s the fault of the developer for not testing their game on a lower end device to make sure the increase in render distance doesn’t destroy performance. handicapping the engine at everyone’s expense to hand hold these people is a horrible idea

What if I want to make a game that is not necessarily made for low end devices? Why do we need to cater to all of the population? This is seriously limiting the creation of high end games
