It would be interesting to make it scriptable. Clearly it doesn’t affect much since we can manually do it in studio from the properties. Doesn’t lag, doesn’t make glitches.
This would allow me to further improve my player’s performances by allowing them to manually toggle off the grass. Doing so easily cut the tris count by couple hundred thousands
I know that there are older posts about this:
- Allow for Terrain.Decoration to be scriptable (6 years ago)
- Let us toggle Terrain.Decoration on runtime (4 years ago)
- Allow grass decor to be toggled locally via script (3 years ago)
and they all point to this Roblox staff response:
But these were YEARS ago and that specific Roblox staff answer was 7 years ago, which is a LONG time and nothing happened since with decorations. This basically points to Roblox either changing direction or priorities regarding decorations. I have quickly experimented with toggling it from the properties directly in studio and everything seemed to work normally: No visual glitches, no noticeable frame drops or any other issues.
In any case, being able to manually toggle it on and off would help me, as previously mentioned, allow my players to better control what they want and don’t want to see and especially get massive performance gains from this for lower end devices without having to drop the overall graphic slider, which honestly is outdated… It’s [2026], please give us discrete graphics options.. but thats a whole other discussion
