Allow us to delete our posts even if they have replies

Last night I was trying to delete a post that was a duplicate, but it had replies so I could not delete it. I had to flag it for moderation just so that it could be deleted, which i think is stupid. So, i think that roblox should allow us to delete posts, even if they have replies.

This won’t become a feature because it can be abused. The best way to delete your post with replies is to self flag it and list a reason for deletion in the “Others” section.

That is exactly what I did, but I did not want toflag it, as it is a lot easier to just be able to delete it instead of having to contact a moderator. This is made even more annoying by the fact that the post was a duplicate. Though, I do see how people can abuse this feature if it was added.

Hey, thanks for posting the request.

The post will only be deleted if there is a privacy concern with keeping the content up. In general, moderators will not delete the thread if that is not the case.

This is in an effort to ensure that we are not deleting useful content from the forum. Generally speaking, when you post something to a forum on the internet, you are contributing to a discussion that becomes larger than just your own contributions. It doesn’t make sense to allow deletion of discussions that other people already contributed to, it is not respectful of their time and other users might get value still out of the discussions.

Hope this helps explain why we don’t allow post deletion if there are already replies in most cases.

If you find that what I said above is not aligned with what you’re experiencing on the forum, or you think we made a mistake somewhere, shoot me a private message with examples and we’ll take another look.

You’re right. It would be much easier to delete it automatically, however, as I’ve said above and as hooksmith mentioned, it’s abuseable. That’s why moderators should be the ones to reevaluate a deletion request. However, this could be done more linearly by just sending a moderator request whenever a user wishes to delete a post. It would be much more convenient.

Perhaps, @Hooksmith could do something about this?

Sorry, not sure I follow, what are you asking for here? You already “send a moderator request” by flagging your own post for deletion.

What I said was to make the process more faster by automatically sending one by clicking the delete button rather than flagging the post yourself. It would be much easier for newer developer forum users.

Yeah… but you’re not really intended to be trying to delete posts unless there’s an urgent reason as stated above.

If you REALLY need it deleted it’s hardly more effort to just flag it.

From my experience, you don’t need to give a reason for deletion. I’ve deleted numerous posts and if you just write “Delete this” as a reason, the moderators will still delete it. Applying this logic, a more convenient delete button is a plausible idea and if there’s ever a need to provide more information then you can by message the moderator who rejected your request. Moderators would already message you if your post is not going to be deleted so it’s not a big deal and it would be easier to just integrate it directly in the delete button.

Can you send me those instances over DM so I can take a look? Based on what you describe, that is not expected behavior unless there actually was some privacy concern with the posts. Happy to take a look over DM. Thanks.

Sure! I’ve messaged you a few images of moderators deleting posts with no concrete reasoning provided. Do note that these images are from my friend, I personally, haven’t had this issue.

Thanks for sharing the samples, I confirmed that those are from a few months back when the process was different. Confirmed that internally we all have the same understanding as the post above that is marked as the solution.

If you see any more recent examples, let me know!
