Hey! This is a bit of an odd request, but I had an idea and I thought that it’d work incredibly well on Roblox.
As I’m sure many of you are aware today one of the biggest games on Roblox are hosting a collaboration with bbno$ a very popular artist who makes lots of songs. The one unfortunate part about it is that it’s not actually a real concert, the creator isn’t actually playing music & he’s unable to directly live stream himself doing anything in-game.
It’s simply just an NPC along with some music and stuff.
Of course having a concert with a REAL artist is cool, but it’d be EVEN COOLER if we could genuinely have real concerts, real live events, and direct content streaming from outside of Roblox.
Security & Safety:
Now instantly the first thing that comes to mind for absolutely anyone reading this feature request is safety, so it makes sense to start with it first.
Now let’s take a real life example. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) currently restricts real television. It has extreme fines, and you can even lose your broadcasting license for many different things.
These things include certain language, content which is not appropriate, etc. I believe that Roblox could implement something similar.
Roblox could incorporate their own streaming licenses. There would be a set amount of streaming licenses that can be activate at any given time and failing to properly utilize it can put restrictions on your Roblox account & give you Robux fines.
These fines would be upwards of 100,000 per infraction
Requirements:
There would be 100 maximum streaming licenses at any given time. That means only 100 creators can have access to it, but it will not be monopolized because they would constantly be moving and renewal based meaning anyone can get one eventually but they are still rare to come by.
Restricting the amount of streaming licenses also allows Roblox to moderate individual experiences & creators much easier.
Since there’d be a limited amount of “streaming licenses”, that means you’d have to lease them. Roblox could price these licenses at 1 million Robux per month (and your account is required to hold at least 500,000 for any potential infractions that your account may hit)
Your account must also be ID verified
How to obtain a License
Step by step guide for this theoretical idea:
#1: Apply for a license
A display would show available licenses. If there’s an available one you can simply purchase it if you meet all of the requirements above.
If there’s no available licenses, you can put down a 50,000 Robux deposit to be placed into a queue waiting for one to open up so that you can buy it. You will then receive an email once your slot is ready, where you can pay for it or decline and the next person in line will be offered it.
Once you’re ready, you’ll be prompted to pay 1 million Robux for a 3 month license. You can setup auto renewal, but if you fail to renew the license it will be revoked from you.
#2: Use the license
Once you’ve successfully purchased a license you would be able to generate a stream key. This stream key can be utilized via OBS or any other streaming tool, along with directly utilizing your own APIs.
This license would allow you to directly stream into video frames & audio instances.
#3: LiveStreamService:
LiveStreamService:GetStreamStatus(UserId)
LiveStreamService:GetStreamHealth(UserId)
LiveStreamService:GetVideoSource(UserId) → Can be attached to VideoFrames
LiveStreamService:GetAudioSource(UserId) → Can be attached to Audio
LiveStreamService.StreamSuspended(UserId)
LiveStreamService.StreamStarted(UserId)
LiveStreamService.StreamEnded(UserId)
Streams are attached to UserIds
That’s the last thing I haven’t gotten to yet, your stream is attached to your UserId. That means you’ll be responsible for anything streamed by you, and not the game creator. Games can display your streamed content at any time directly from your user id, which means many games can have the same concerts and livestreams simultaneously.
That’s it
This is purely conceptual. Just a cool idea I had that I thought would work well on Roblox, I’d love to see creators such as @KreekCraft streaming onto Roblox, as well as expanding live events such as admin abuses by @jandel expanding into this new form.
Imagine being able to directly stream your microphone (or even your face cam in the corner) talking to your player base! I think it would be AWESOME.
The extreme price would also help keep users safe so that they don’t get exposed to anything bad from bad people ![]()
