Allow users to use their 2d face variants

As a longtime player of Roblox, I get how important it is to be able to express yourself with your avatar.

However, many people in the ** Completing the Dynamic Head Migration** post have brought up the fact that they do not feel like they can appropriately express themselves with Dynamic Faces/Heads. I am one of these users.

Despite every bit of criticism received, it has been ignored. While I’ll agree, Dynamic Faces are cool technology and have great potential, the issue is forcing everyone to use these while boasting about how important self expression is.

You have also added random changes to faces, for example the Cutie Mouse face now having a mouth

I’d like to also mention, this breaks accessories because the dynamic head is forced upwards.

Avatar example pre & post dynamic face update:

What happened to that 1:1 visual parity again?

Anyways, random garbage aside…

I suggest making it so you can use both 2d & 3d faces. There’s no point in not doing this, besides pissing off the masses and trying super hard to appeal to investors.

Literally just re-add classic heads & faces to this category. It’s not going to kill David or anything.

It’s extremely simple, and you still refuse to do anything about it, which is ridiculous.

Did I mention that nobody wants this?
I’ll bring up the fact that we can toggle them to be static, sure, cool I guess, but it’s still 3d slop that nobody prefers to use.
Let’s see what the ratio on your recent Twitter post was.. oh.

And also I shouldn’t even have to mention that Roblox is just straight up changing users avatars without their consent.

TL;DR

Add a feature to make the face 2d again. Nobody wants to use the investorslop. It’s cool, sure, you can keep it though.

Is this even the correct forum area for this? I don’t know, but I’m going to post it anyways.

Also, now is your time to profit heavily if you’re a UGC creator.

If you have issues with the visual parity of one of the dynamic heads please report it in the bug reports under “catalog asset bugs”. They are not going to revert this update because having 2d animated heads and 3d animated heads in the same game/platform causes one or the other to look uncanny/weird when seen side by side, so having heads with 2D static faces looks really weird when they are placed alongside characters with emotive and expressive 3D heads.

No, the actual reason is that dynamic heads, from the investors standpoint, looked like a massive waste of time and money since nobody used them in any serious manner unless if they weren’t aware that they were using them.
So, to make them not appear as a waste of time and money, they forced everyone to use them now. People can’t use alternatives if they simply don’t exist!

So many of them have problems.

  • The mouth on “Skeptic” is too thin compared to the 2D version
  • The mouth and eyes on “Heeeeeey…” are beyond too thick
  • :] just looks really off
  • "Chill"s mouth and eyes are just wrong
  • "Err…"s mouth is too small, too thick, and the eyes look odd
  • “Check It” is BEYOND messed up

And those are just heads in my inventory.

The dynamic heads are neither emotive or expressive. They lack all the posing required to actually be expressive. As someone who plays VRChat with a full face-tracking headset, trust me, the dynamic heads in comparison are awful.

Also, Dynamic heads don’t natively support VR face-tracking, nor is the PC face-tracking that good to begin with, again, due to the lack of actual poses you can do. And honestly, the lack of poses is partly due to the 2D faces never being fit to become 3D animated faces. They just don’t work and it’s very apparent that they don’t.

Their default animations are anything but expressive and nobody actually bothers animating them when making custom animations.

Roblox was also never really fit, or even needed such tech with the heads. They aren’t a focus of the engine at all. When talking to someone, you’re looking at their speech bubbles or what they’re doing, not their face, because roblox ISN’T inherently a social game, letalone there are social games, more often than not, you’re in 3rd person not looking at a single persons face. There is literally no point for dynamic heads to exist in the first place.
Not a single soul was complaining about the lack of them.

Animated heads are not required at all for expression of self.

Then report them in the catalog asset category in the bug reports. They aren’t going to fix the heads that have issues unless you report them

Planned features like makeup do not work if people have faces that vary widely from each other and do not follow the same face skeleton system. Roblox avatars need to have dynamic faces that match the face system in order for a system like that to work. The dynamic heads allow for more ways to customize and express yourself with your avatar.

Yea the dynamic heads are slightly higher and aren’t 1:1. The face I’ve been using for years now makes my head look really weird and I don’t like it. There was no reason to remove classic faces. Guess I can’t express myself the way I want to.

I don’t think I need to report this. They looked over this and created it, they know how it looks.

There are hundreds of faces and they had to make them fit like 20 different head shapes each there is plenty of mistakes. Some of the faces are missing their textures entirely like in this bug report

You do know that the people who want the classic faces don’t want makeup, right? At the very minimum people simply won’t use it, even if they did want it as a feature.

Do tell me, why is more customization for avatars worse? Why should I be limited from expressing myself by using a 2D non-animated face because of new features I do not wish to use?

Again, the people who want said features will be using dynamic heads. Most of us will not be using them and simply want our 2D faces back.

And 2D faces didn’t?
Also, some avatars just don’t need dynamic heads, such as myself:

In my case, dynamic heads made my avatar look WORSE. It looked more bland and less expressive. And yes, I did have a dynamic head that looked similar to my current accessory face. Put simply it was bad.

Also, to simply break down your point even further, forcing dynamic heads disallows more ways to customize avatars. You can no longer have a 2D face. Roblox, in removing the 2D faces has severely limited how people can customize their avatars.

Point is, new features only matter to those who actually use the tech they require. Those of us, which was a majority, who used the 2D faces, did not want or plan to ever use makeup. We didn’t want the animation, nor did we want any features that came with it. There was literally no reason to remove the 2D faces besides making dynamic heads not look like a waste of time to the investors.

My question stands. Why should people who used 2D faces and preferred them be completely blocked out of using them because of features they do not want or plan to use? And, how does limiting people like this expand what they can do with their avatars?

I’ve already switched to a “dynamic” head I have and disabled the animation. What I’m doing now is no different to what I was doing before, my characters face is still just an image and not animated. The only difference now is that I can’t use my official roblox 2D faces at all, which is something I would still MAJORLY prefer to do over using the god awful 3D variants or using the existing 2D “dynamic” heads that exist knowing that someday roblox will just delete them because in their eyes having anything not be animated is bad and limits creativity I guess.

And before you even think to bring up the argument of “visually it doesn’t fit!!” Well neither does not having the faces animated and the massively varying types of dynamic heads, but those are the current alternatives roblox gave us. Them forcing dynamic heads is literal investor slop with no other actual reasoning behind it.

This has to be the most garbage update ever, if they want us to express ourselves they should allow us to use both the decal face and the dynamic head.

you forgot the awkward face… it’s horrible

stuff like these makes me question if roblox knows that they’re actively sabotaging the goodwill with their community, never i would see the day that a feature request is made, for this?

for WEEKS people have stated that they do not want this change, or prefer a choice between using dyamic or classic.. and they roll it out anyway

they’ve literally created a problem and another pr headache that they could’ve easily avoided by leaving classic faces and heads alone

it is baffling how roblox doesn’t have a similar system to minecraft’s mob vote for people to democratically decide on updates like this, and even then i don’t have hope they’d even honour the majority vote

like i understand this might as well be a silly issue to rant and discuss, but when you have the community showing resentment to the company (and hilariously to the ceo for some reason), there is something critically wrong with you conducting your practice that you need to seriously reevaluate, they cant operate like this for too long

The problem here is nobody asked for makeup either…
Devs can implement makeup per game.

Plus UGC creators can already upload 2d faces. So why bother. Just exclude them for the makeup feature. That’s it.

We literally did not ask for this update to happen and I agree with all the points you’ve just said

Besides 2d faces are already good enough for self expression and gives more choice

This is the best possible outcome of the Dynamic Faces update. If anything, I feel like this may convince people to use Dynamic Faces more, seeing as we would then have the freedom of choice.

I did not buy the faces for them to be converted so suddenly and against my will as well.

Bump, this is very much needed.

I’ve gone around and seen posts that revert this, and calls to revert this. Been saying similar stuff on there as well.

There is a major underlying issue with performance on these, as they require more meshes which causes more strain on memory, especially with a large amount of players. Keeping this stuff will only make games laggier, we need a way to revert it.

Update: These new dynamic heads have completely broken the gun system I use alongside almost all head rotation scripts. This is annoying.

I don’t get why Roblox can be this stupid. I don’t need to say anything else as to why plus I’m pretty sure this would break certain games too.
Even the R15 rig that you would use has the animated head now. Note that old code could break since there always was a decal in a head named “face”. This is only applying to R15, but still.
