Allow Verified Badge to Persist After Display Name Change (Especially to Real Names)

As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to retain the Verified Badge (checkmark) after changing your Display Name, even when the new name is your real legal name as proven during identity verification.

This makes it risky for developers and public figures to update their Display Name for branding or authenticity purposes. For example, I changed my Display Name from “sayercito” to my real name “Marcel”, but immediately lost my verified badge.

If this issue is addressed, it would improve my development experience because it would allow developers who have already proven their identity to Roblox to rebrand or display their real name without losing status, trust, or public recognition.

The Verified Badge serves not only as a trust signal within the platform but also externally, for example, when showcasing your profile to employers, collaborators, or other developers. Removing it after something as minor as a Display Name update discourages authentic identity use and unnecessarily penalizes verified users.

Use Cases & Justification:

  • Personal Branding: Developers may want to shift toward using their real names for networking, personal brand growth, or consistency across platforms. This is especially relevant for those seeking job opportunities in the gaming industry or wanting to present themselves professionally.
  • Verified Identity Already Established: If a user has completed Roblox’s verification process and Roblox has confirmed their real identity, a Display Name change to match that real name shouldn’t revoke the badge, it should be encouraged.
  • Loss of Visibility and Trust: The verified badge carries weight in terms of recognition and authority. Losing it due to a display name update may cause confusion for fans, players, and business contacts.
  • Locked-Out of Reverification: With the Verified Badge program currently closed for new applicants or re-enrollment, losing the badge due to a name change can become permanently damaging, even if the user’s account still meets the original criteria.

Proposed note (optional):
Roblox could implement a grace period or manual review process that allows users to retain or re-request the Verified Badge after changing their Display Name, especially when the new name reflects their real, previously verified identity.
