Allowing Users to see their current DMCA Strikes/Moderation Status

As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to keep up with how many “DMCA Strikes” a user has assigned, or what’s the current moderation status of the user.

If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because this would help a lot of developers know what’s their latest moderation action, if that expired, or if they have any active DMCA Strikes on their accounts.

Posting this on behalf of my friends, that were recently hit with a wave of DMCAs, I think it would be nice to allow users to see how many DMCA Strikes they currently have, when/if these expire, and what’s their current “Community Standing” situation.

For example, we have Discord here:

Allowing users to see their current “Standing” on discord, showing if their account is currently banned from doing certain actions.

We have Youtube here, showing Copyright status:

I assume, for a few reasons, Roblox would not be okay with showing the full moderation history, like they used to do in the past, however I think that “recent” moderation history should be shown to the user until they expire, if they expire.

I would personally think a full moderation history comeback would be good, as well as a way of seeing your current situation, BUT even if we don’t get the moderation history, I think that users NEED to be able to see their current Moderation & Copyright situation.

Similar topics and ideas can be found here:

Currently, the only way to see your current DMCA strikes, is to email support, which is very hard to do as there is no specific support category to ask for that.
Would be nice if we got a support category that allows users to ask to see their current strikes if we won’t be getting anything as big as this.

Please, as Roblox grows, I think that the moderation & DMCA related stuff should also evolve and be up to date with modern platforms.

This kind of request might’ve made sense years ago, but the examples you gave — like Discord’s account standing system or YouTube’s three strikes copyright policy — aren’t really comparable to how Roblox operates anymore. As you know, the old 3-strike policy used to be a thing, but it’s been completely removed from Roblox’s Terms. What’s in place now is the “Repeat Infringer Policy.”

There’s no fixed timeline or step-by-step strike system being strictly followed, so the whole idea of “my DMCA strike hasn’t expired yet” or “my account is on strike 2” doesn’t really apply. What matters is whether Roblox considers you a repeat infringer, and there’s no concept of “active DMCA” notices counting or expiring.

According to that policy:

So it’s no longer about a specific number of strikes. Roblox doesn’t follow a “one warning = X consequences” model. The whole system is discretionary now. That means requests like:

Oh, you’ve received your first warning, so now you can’t chat in any games anymore. Then, at your second warning, you won’t be able to sell any UGC items for six months. Hit the third warning, and Roblox will take all your revenue and remove your limited items. And if you get a fourth warning, well… it’s basically bye bye to your account. :fearful:

…don’t really reflect how the current policies work. It’s not about fixed steps or warnings expiring. Roblox simply looks at whether you’re a repeat infringer…

Also clearly stated in the User Terms, under section 2 “User Accounts; Access to Services”:

And again, in the Creator Terms, under section 2 “Intellectual Property,” clause vii:

So yeah, trying to fit Roblox’s policy into some step-by-step punishment system just doesn’t make sense, especially since what counts as a “repeat infringer” is totally up to Roblox to decide. Also, having strikes expire is probably not a thing anymore.

Actually, it’s pretty straightforward — when I emailed copyright_agent@roblox.com, they just told me right away if I had any strikes on my account:

Lot’s of my friends that dealt with such issues haven’t really been able to get a clear answer if they had or no an active strike on their account unless they kept pestering support about it, their answer always being “We’re sorry but we’re unable to provide you with any further information or response regarding this inquiry

Even if they changed the way DMCAs work on the platform, having a “repeated infringer” system instead of a 3-strike system, there should still be a way for users to see most recent moderation activity on their account so they can make sure to take the right steps to fix their mistakes and know where they’re situated.

All of this without having to deal with support, most of the times getting responses different from what they’ve been asking for, or being denied to see the information they’re asking about. (OR even waiting few days for an answer, having said support mostly answers in business days, and not the weekends)

There’s also no support category in the DMCA section or Moderation that provides users with information related to their current standing on the platform.

Any way of helping users get more information related to their account standing, whenever that’s related to a DMCA or a Moderation action taken against their account, would be helpful. Currently the closest thing to that is the new appeals page, which is indeed a very good step into the right direction, however it comes with it’s flaws, first of all, it only applies to appealing assets, no other type of moderation actions, sometimes assets won’t be shown in there, and it’s also a page ONLY dedicated to appeals, so there’s still no way for users to see recent bans they had
