Alt account game bans returning no active restriction via API

API returns no active restriction for accounts banned through enforcement actions taken on another account. This has made our player support very tedious as we can’t do anything for these people.

Hi thanks for the report. Can you clarify which API you’re using?

https://apis.roblox.com/cloud/v2/universes/{universeId}/user-restrictions/{userId}

It started happening earlier today. Moderators across two games suddenly reporting issues with getting info about alt account bans. Creator Hub’s moderation dashboard also reports no account bans when inputting the user ID.

Are you inputting the original user ID or the user ID for a potential alt account?

Potential alt account. The player reports being unable to join and notes the enforcement action as the ban message. Most users don’t provide their main account and a lot of appeals tend to be regarding these alt accounts.

This alt account was banned because you banned one of their accounts with “Apply ban to all known alt accounts” enabled. To unban the alt account you would need to unban the original account. I understand your frustration that alt accounts do not appear on Creator Hub Bans portal, however we intentionally do not display this information to prevent abuse.

This is ridiculous. My game’s appeals are filled with people appealing for the alt-detection reason, and now we can’t even see that they are banned. How are we, the developers and moderators of experiences, supposed to sort out appeals properly if we can’t even view this basic information? So now are we supposed to tell these users who are appealing to us, “sorry, we can’t do anything”, and then they will go to Roblox support, which then Roblox support will direct them to our appeal form, which we can’t do anything, and so it becomes a loop of this user never being able to get any information about their ban whatsoever.

Your suggestion here whether implied or not is to either only ban people with exclude alts on, which would just make exploiting even more rampant than it already is, or to just deny these people any chance at appealing. Anyone who has an older brother that gets banned in the same network, anyone who somehow falsely gets detected as an alt through public wifi, or VPNs, these people are all left hopeless because of this change.

Please reconsider, we aren’t “abusing” our players with this information, we are helping them with their ban appeals.

As a developer of multiple experiences with a thorough moderation team and appeals, this change makes it impossible to check if users are even banned in the first place.

We now have to tell people banned on alt accounts that we can’t see they’re banned or that they aren’t banned from our point of view.

Hi folks! Thanks for the report. We haven’t made any changes to hide alt bans from the Get User Restriction API, to my knowledge. If you could DM me an example of a universe ID and potential alt user ID, I’m happy to look up whether there is a potential bug in the system.

Hey, I’m unable to send you some examples:

:face_with_spiral_eyes: Hmmm. I’ll DM you and see if that works.

Hi folks! We dug a bit deeper, and it appears this is a bug in our system. We’re rolling it back now and I’ll keep y’all posted when it’s done.

Our rollback is done. Sorry again for the trouble! Please let us know if you’re still seeing issues.
