[Archived] Input Action System Manager | A lightweight, easy to use manager plugin for the Input Action System

Latest Update:

Hello! I want to share with all of you a small plugin that I’ve made, called Input Action System Manager (or IASM for short), that I believe makes working with the new Input Action System that Roblox has implemented a lot easier. You can check out the sections below to learn more about the features.

Contexts Menu

Contexts Menu

When you open the window, IASM appears with a simple UI. By default, the Contexts menu will appear. This menu allows you to see all of your created Contexts with this plugin in your place.

If there are no created Contexts, you will see a notification telling you how to create your first Context. By clicking the “+” button at the top left, the Context Configuration menu will appear, allowing you to configure your first Context.

Contexts Configuration Menu

This menu allows you to configure and create a Context. It contains all the available properties of an InputContext. It even allows you to set additional properties such as Description and Location, so you can further customize your Context.

The Description property allows you to create a description for your Context that will be visible in the main Contexts menu after the Context has been created. And the Location property dictates where your Context will be located in the DataModel.

The Actions section allows you to create Actions which contain all of the properties of the InputAction instance. And each Action allows you to create Bindings underneath it, which like Actions, contains all of the properties of the InputBinding instance.

After configuring your Context, Actions, and Bindings, you can click the “Save” button to save your Context, which will make it appear in the main Contexts menu.

You’ll notice that in the location you’ve specified, an InputContext has appeared, and in the Contexts menu, you’ll see that a Context has appeared on the list, within a small frame. This small frame allows you to either edit or delete the Context.

Settings Menu

Settings Menu

This menu allows you to configure the default values that are on the Contexts Configuration Menu.
You can easily change these default values to make your future Context, Action, and Binding creations easier. You can also reset them back to their original values ones provided by the plugin.

Thanks for reading! I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback.

Made with Class++ and PluginEssentials.

This is a very nice plugin. Even tho I still prefer setting it up by code, some things that could make this even better IMO.

  • Implement a search feature for all the places that use keycodes, and increase the width of the dropdown.
  • Create a Default Options Preset, eg, PressedThreshold, ReleaseThreshold, and any other common properties that some could change; instead of changing it over and over, this would
improve a lot the experience and bulk changes in the future.

Also since you said you will eventually release a module with it, having a runtime way of changing the UIButton of a biding would be great for people that use UI libraries and create their elements at runtime.

This is already available in the Settings! You can expand the Default Binding Properties to change the default PressedThreshold for example.

Oh my bad on that . But the search option would be greate still

Can you elaborate more on the search part? I couldn’t get what you meant.

Instead of scrolling to get to the keycode, or any dropdown, you can search for it. Sorry for the massive massive delay.

Hello. I’m archiving this plugin because Roblox has implemented a built-in plugin solution for managing Input Actions. The source code has been made public.
