Are “Ro–” prefixes allowed in new experience names? Looking for clarification

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get some clarity on Roblox’s naming rules for new experiences. The official ToS states:

“The name ‘Roblox’ and any name similar to Roblox including ‘Blox’ (and Roblox will determine what is similar) are not permitted in titles of any Experience created on or after June 22, 2022. For example, titles such as ‘Roblox World’ or ‘Bloxtun Express’ would be prohibited.”

I understand that “Roblox” and “Blox” are clearly disallowed, but I’m unsure whether “Ro” by itself is considered a “similar name.”

I’m working on a new game and was considering the name “RoHook”, but before I commit to it, I want to make sure it doesn’t violate any branding rules. I’m hoping to follow the rules as closely as possible, so any official references or personal experiences would help a lot.

Thanks in advance!

It says

any name similar to Roblox

and

including Blox

which is not exclusive of Ro. And since Ro is heavily associated with the Roblox brand, I’d say that it’s too similar.

An alternative name for your game could be Go Hook!. Still has that o sound.

Although this rule only applies on Roblox. IIRC Roblox only has rights over Roblox. I think they don’t legally own their old names or the words Ro or Blox, so if you were to remake your game in Unity, Godot, or another engine, and put it on Steam, it can be called RoHook.

What a stupid rule, why would you not allow your platform’s name to be used… on your platform?
