Are cinematic horror games with cutscenes possible to do?

heyy! i wanted to ask if it’s possible to make a horror game with animated cutscenes, similar to until dawn, but without QTEs or choices. you will also be able to walk freely between cutscenes to do tasks, then enter another cutscene
here’s a game with an animated cutscene, i’ll do something like this but with parts that let you move Cutscene Demo - Roblox
i want to know if roblox can handle this well because i don’t really know how could i do it and if anyone has experience or advice with this kind of project i’d appreciate your help. i’m planning on using moon animator. thanks!

No, it is absolutely impossible and has never been before

Ignore their generally unhelpful comment.
Yes they are possible, they have been done for many years.
It’s done by tweening a part that the camera is on. I’ve worked on games (Unreleased) that had it. I’d google it if I were you.

thanks for your help! i was hoping this would be possible, it’ll probably take me a lot of time though. i have to add the character dialogues, change their face decals during the animations, and handle a lot of other stuff

yeah, i was going to use moon animator. it kinda sucks that objects won’t be visible, but i don’t really mind. it’s mostly about the camera movement and character animations. thanks for the help!

yeah, i’ll make it so when the player touches a part, the cutscene starts. do you know if there’s a tutorial to make cutscenes like that with moon animator? i don’t know how to make them work exactly

they’re being unhelpfully sarcastic, it is possible and has been done quite a bit, Roblox can normally handle it.

Everything (almost) is possible if you manage to figure out how to do it! I’m also working on a cutscene system i made by myself, its not cinematic but at least you should try too. Now i don’t quite know how to make it cinematic but you may wanna add two black frames to the cutscene, one of them to top and one of them to bottom like this:

You also need good sound effects, animations and camera movements. After that im pretty sure you will achieve your goal. Keep it up! :+1:

This may be extremely overengineered for most cases, but a few times I’ve used Event Sequencer in Inline mode for these types of things. It’s extremely powerful, managing things like full scene and lighting swap outs, including terrain. It also manages timing and synchronization of SFX, VFX and animations.

It needs some modification from the recommended path to make it run only on the client side, but once you do it’s great for many use cases.
