Are GUI games a good idea?

Greetings, fellow developers!

So earlier today, I was doing some research on game ideas that only require basic building, as I’m a solo developer(scripter) and I have little to no experience in building, and I don’t plan on practicing it much. Then I came up with an idea, which was to make a GUI only game. However, the few games I’ve found using that style, were not very well rated and were not very complex. I also couldn’t find any topics on this “genre”, so I decided to create one, which led me to the question:

“Are GUI games a good idea?”

Thanks for reading!

They hardley get popular if thats what your looking for but many are very cool and Have amazing features like Lua Learning.

I would say it would not succeed well in Roblox, but Love2d is another great 2d engine which uses Lua.
If you’re going to make it anyhow:

  • Roblox games which get popular are usually multiplayer.
  • If it’s 2d-only, maybe have it informative?
  • Look at Lua Learning like @DevAltRLDareDaniel0 said.

Ideas: A music game? Composing app? Strategy? Informative?

Good luck!

Yeah a music game is an amazing idea! I would defintly play that and if it was really good konekokitten might play it cause he loves that type of stuff and that would get you many players!

I feel like 2D games are harder to make thanks to Roblox’s positioning and sizing methods for GUI elements.

However, it would be very cool and I would go for it!

Not entirely sure if there is API for 2 frames touching each other, so that might make it harder than 3d where there is extensive API for contact
