Atmospherics Simulation

Hello there,
I am currently looking into figuring out atmospherics simulation for a game concept I have. To elaborate, I am trying to create a system where there are chemical compounds in the air (for example nitrogen and oxygen) and they can basically spread out through a contained space to level out or with similar behaviour as to how it works in real life.

One of the ideas I had for this was to use a 3D grid, each grid would occupy a 2x2x2 space and it would have data on the reagents that it contains. Then it would spread it’s contents to level it out across a contained space. The issue is, is that I don’t have any experience with creating such grids and making them behave like this so I would appreciate if there are any answers with posts or articles on this topic that can help me answer this.

I am open to any solutions, ideas and concepts you guys might have in regards to this question. If you have high technical know-how about these things please reach out to me privately as I am also looking for someone who knows these things pretty well to help me work on the game.
