A few months ago, I uploaded Kevin Macleod music (free to use). Recently, Roblox started taking down the audios uploaded. I tried slowing it down which didn’t work. I am confused, since the creator of the music literally says it’s okay to use it if credited..
This also causes my playlist script to break since it waits for the song to load.
For some reason Roblox removes any songs that are remotely popular even if they are not copyrighted. Your best bet would be changing the pitch of the song and then changing it back in studio.
You cannot use songs that are creative commons, only if there has never been copyright to begin with.
They likely have creative commons copyright, and regardless the extent of copyright, the Roblox system only checks if it exists.
Creative Commons isn’t widely respected which causes a huge divide between anti-copyright and pro-copyright views, as it is the middle ground.
You need to find artists that you don’t need permission or credit at all to use their art.
I would agree, but Roblox already has multiple of his songs available. I don’t get why Roblox takes down music from a person that they have on the platform.
Additionally, on the website, it’s stated that it’s allowed as long as credit is given.
I don’t know of any such examples outside of those whose works are in the Public Domain (which, in the U.S., are entered ~100 years after the creator became deceased after 1930).
If my work was published to the platform, I would require permission to be granted and credited before giving it to someone to use in their own projects.
There are many others who think like this, so I think it’s best to use your own audio or the audio ROBLOX has in their audio library unless you want to risk getting it moderated. It is the safest option.
In this case, I would suggest emailing ROBLOX Support and asking about this manner while providing evidence that the creator is okay with how their work is used.
You can make a choice for your art to be public domain.
That’s what I do. You just simply don’t add copyright and declare that there is none.
Roblox support would be no help on this issue. The copyright system checks if it exists and Roblox support doesn’t except evidence to correct it if it’s wrong.
Yeah, you can make your creations part of the Public Domain. I’m just not aware of any examples off the top of my head.
After a bit of research, I can only suggest buying a Standard License for the music… but that can be expensive. If you wanted to go this route, Section 6 of the Audio Upload License Agreement does provide information on how to submit licenses to the platform.
It’s unfortunate that Creative Commons licenses aren’t accepted, since the problem would be solved if they were. I remember hearing Kevin MacLeod’s music in many ROBLOX games years ago, including ROBLOX events such as Egg Hunt 2016. It’s very nostalgic.
This would probably get VERY expensive quickly (and I don’t even have the money for the amount of Kevin Macleod music that would be used). Let’s say I have 20 Kevin Macleod tracks. That’s four hundred dollars, and I don’t really have that money.
