Auto Moderation For Image Names DESTROYS Development/Workflow

Reproduction Steps

Upload any png image file, with whatever seems like a perfectly normal name for the decal.

Expected Behavior

I expect things like “Color Set” or “Bamboo Color” or “Modular Set” or “Wood Stuff” to be approved names for images.

I also would anticipate if an image name was inappropriate, some kind of message indicating this.

Lastly, it’d be nice if it would happen in a reasonable amount of time.

Actual Behavior

For the past 2 years, if a name is flagged as inappropriate the website immediately directs to a 400 error. It also highjacks my back button, so I have to spam back in order to get off the 400 error page.

For the past week perfectly normal names like mentioned above are getting flagged as inappropriate and create the above problem.

For the past 3 days, it can take up to 60 seconds to upload an image only to have it’s name flagged and I need to retry the upload with a different name. These are normal 1024 pngs, my internet speed it totally fine.

Workaround

Naming files completely unrelated un-unique things seems to work most of the time. But this is terrible for finding images you uploaded more than a week ago.

This seems to be specifically an issue with the decal creation process rather than uploading images as a whole. As for the OP, if you need an image (and not a decal, for whatever reason) as a temporary workaround, just upload the image from Studio. It will tell you when an asset had to be renamed due to moderation issues and won’t 400, I doubt that much resources will go into fixing this page as it’s on the old develop page which is slowly getting phased out. On top of this, by uploading your images from Studio, you can take advantage of Roblox’s bulk import feature.

Be very precise with the image title/desc and it’ll have more chance to survive!

Encountered this issue recently. I was trying to upload a decal named Crate_NormalMap, every attempt the website threw me the same 400 error. I tried things like recreating the image, lowering the bitrate, but not a single change worked.

Renamed it to Crate_Norm, worked first try.

I wasted half a hour trying to upload one image, very frustrating as nothing told me the NAME was the error reason.

Thanks for the report. I filed a ticket to our internal database.

It’s not just image creation. I had a problem with the name/description of an audio upload as well. It seems that the phrase “Who are you?” has been blacklisted. However, that’s what the audio says, and that’s one of the phrases that the NPC uses right before they attack the player.

I have issued a support ticked on this to see what they have to say about it.

This is also happening to me and my coworker Lexariis. In fact, they were actually banned for one day because of a decal named “Bronze2BL” or something like that. The content itself was fine, but somehow the name got flagged as “sexual content” and now they are worried their DevEx eligibility was revoked because of, no offense, a faulty auto-mod system. They sent an email to ROBLOX support to hopefully resolve this and make sure their eligibility hasn’t been revoked. ROBLOX is their primary job and how they pay the bills, so for it to be revoked just for a false identification would be absolutely bizzare.

Sorry for the late response here. We couldn’t report, is the issue still happening?

Nope, after switching over to the new creator dashboard system this hasn’t been an issue.
