I would like to address a solution to a problem that me and many other developers have been running into for years now.
As a developer who’s been using roblox studio since 2016, auto recoveries these past few years have been very useless to me, as it seems like the behavior of local files being deleted has changed, since my auto recoveries folder is usually empty now, or contains files which are months or even years apart.
These auto recoveries are months apart
Years back, the auto recoveries folder used to somewhat fill up with auto saves being minutes or hours apart meaning i usually have something to go back to if i accidentally overwrite or close my work.
In recent years, this behavior seems to have changed and me and many other developers do not get a good quantity of recoveries for a place.
The problem:
Yes, we have Version History for published places, but issue is we do not have this sort of functionality on local files or new places that we may work for a very long time without saving/publishing.
Also sometimes local files corrupt, which i have had happen to me a couple of times..
i’ve even found this to be problematic sometimes, as i or someone else may accidentally close the window on my computer, which causes more lost work.
And sometimes i cannot always work on places with team create or published places as our internet is sometimes unreliable and cuts out for long periods of time. Local work and a log of auto recoveries and files ensure i don’t lose work on my PC
There are quite a few scenarios where I have lost quite a bit of work. auto recoveries in their current behavior are pretty useless to me, and i feel like having a backlog option would be very nice and solve most issues we’re describing (i.e make a new auto recovery every X amount of minutes without deleting anything) maybe even with a limit option which removes the oldest file to prevent the folder filling up too much up to a certain number of files.
If this issue could be solved, it would heavily help with my work to reliably prevent loss work from mistakes or when internet cuts out and i cannot save my work
