Automatic ban wave incorrectly terminating thousands of accounts: AI handled appeals are consistently NOT working as expected

You did what you could and exhausted all the Roblox support channels. I tried using the BBB as well but unsurprisingly, Roblox does not seem to respond to those complaints. It explains why they have an F rating on the BBB.

The appeals process is a joke. It’s just lazy, automated responses. Even if a human does see it, it’s usually just a copy and paste. I tried over and over explaining to them my situation but its always the same copy-paste response.

If you really want to, you can send them a demand letter (MIDR) and send them all the documentation of your innocence.

It’s ridiculous that they allow AI to permanently ban someone and it can be wrong, and Roblox will just look the other way.

i sent my MIDR that’s probably the last resort to do, if you tried everything (BBB, excerising sending many roblox support appeals), i would say do a MIDR. I am currently waiting on a reply, i already got confirmation they received my letter 2 days ago, so i will notify everyone in 30-60 days if i get it back. It’s crazy how we have to do something like this for an error of AI moderation that roblox support lacks to see. I hope everyone gets their account back.

I’ve considered sending an MIDR as my final resolution how long does the process take for a response of review?

As far as I know, it takes ages for Roblox to respond. Roblox has not responded to my MIDR and it’s been 40 days. Roblox has a 60 day countdown from when they received your MIDR letter (the date which was signed by the receiver on your Form 3811). So you could go 60 days without ever receiving a response. If Roblox does not respond to you within 60 days of receipt, you are legally cleared to escalate to binding individual arbitration.

@Dharkalegon Thanks for the breakdown. Good to know when arbitration kicks in.
I shipped out my MIDR. Tracking it now to see when they sign for it so I can start the countdown. Appreciate you!

MIDR is the best chance of actually getting a real reply from a human, the chances are high. The reason you might wait past 40 days even up to 60 days of waiting a response, is because of many people doing it. Also i heard they usually check MIDR letters near their end date so day 58-59. Goodluck i am also on day 20 of sending my MIDR.

update: my MIDR got denied unfortunately my account (2.7k usd, game progress in games) gone just like that, alongside with my 10 alt accounts that also had some progress in other games. It’s sad to see my account go due to a false termination on my account, all because of the AI moderation roblox implemented. Unfortunately that account is now gone, and i can’t fight it no more unless an administrator here sees it. I got terminated for repeatedly getting chat violations (twice) for saying the color “Blue”. In my opinion termination and getting all my alt accounts banned plus hardware ban on my phone, that i can’t even play on mobile anymore is just absurd. I should’ve gotten at least a temporary ban. I wish luck to those trying to their accounts back from a MIDR

If you live in the United States and they rejected your MIDR, now is high time to file for binding arbitration. You can do so through FedArb.

Even if you reside outside of the United States, I am sure that there is still steps you can take to fight that rejection. You will need to check with your jurisdiction’s laws and resources.

Replying to up this post, I have also made a forum post about these false AI banwaves:
https://devforum.roblox.com/t/ai-moderation-is-out-of-control-games-banned-for-no-reason/4762507

We cannot go on like this, this has completely ruined the platform beyond imagination, I can’t be motivated to use chat or develop games when all my work can be destroyed by a catastrophy of an AI system that seems to be intentionally designed to only target innocent people!

The same thing happens with games. AI destroys games for no apparent reason, and it is almost impossible to appeal the AI’s decision because there is no more support service in Roblox. And I think an interesting moment is coming soon. As you know, Roblox has made it as difficult as possible to release new games. The introduction of new standards has led to a large outflow of developers. I think in the near future we will see a huge reduction in games, AI will destroy the old ones, but new ones will not appear, and this will become a real collapse.

It feels like they are prioritizing massive companies and developer groups over small indie devs, since only the bigger devs and famous content creators right now are enjoying the privilege of having 24/7 contact with real human support while the rest of us are left to talking to a wall.

I don’t think a company that treats some people badly will treat others well. They already have disregard for people embedded in the system itself. As far as I can tell, Roblox artificially keeps famous developers online, filling their games with thousands of bots. I don’t know how long they will be able to continue deceiving and bullying everyone.

Apparently chains of bad events (in big part, having to do with the increased use of AI in things that do NOT need and should NOT have any of it) lead to consequences (picture below). Who would’ve thought? I made this post 7 months ago, it has over 150 replies and 15k views, over 1.2k likes, and yet we still do not have even the slightest acknowledgement. Notice that I did not mention fixes, but simply acknowledgement. This is also in the Bug Reports section of the DevForum which is actively being monitored by staff members. I do not accuse those staff members specifically of anything, I am sure they must have reported this at some point, but in that case, the incompetence is among their leadership.

Aside from that, people may also say that Roblox was forced by the US government to implement the age-verification and all these other marvelous inventions. To that I’d reply that Roblox was simply one of the first corporations to bend to this obvious breach of privacy. No backbone, ready to indirectly give away the data of millions of children. This excuse also would’ve never stood if they cared enough to properly moderate the platform in the past.

This series of events has simply convinced me, many months ago, to absolutely never make any purchases on this platform, and also to prevent anyone I know from doing it as well.

Actions that ANY user can take

Here are 3 actions to consider for everyone. Very simple actions that even the least dedicated people can do if they want to make a change at their scale:

  1. Vote with your wallet. Refuse to pay until you’re listened to. Are you seriously going to give money to people who blatantly spit to your face?
  2. Tell your friends on Roblox. Simply do not be afraid to communicate about this first action to your close circles, this is how you can very quickly grow the extent of an action; the catch is that you actually have to do it, not just ponder it.
  3. Archive anything of importance. I have already archived this post a few times. If you have a post on similar topics, make sure to archive them. You are never safe from excessive “moderation”, and keeping evidence is always great to have.

Popular actions to NOT consider (well, as of now at least)

  1. There’s been a trend about “blackouts” recently. These will not work for multiple reasons: they only last a very short amount of time. If you want to properly do it, you have to do it UNTIL you are listened to, without any interruption. This is not only unnecessary, but also unrealistic to expect from such a big platform mostly composed of young people. Remember that Roblox is trying to cater to an older audience exactly because they are the ones that spend the most money, this is where our actions matter. Keep playing and doing whatever you want, but simply refuse to pay. Over the scale of a year, playing everyday yet not buying anything will have a far greater impact than even not playing for a whole month but still paying subscriptions.
  2. Bringing influencers into this, is not always the best idea. They have reach, but they also live off of this platform in part. It is, for most of the bigger creators, not in their incentives at all to participate. The core of the participation must be from regular users like ourselves, refusing to pay. I have been playing Roblox since I was a kid in 2013, I know many tens of people in the same case. Simply speaking up about it to regular players is enough. I know that some smaller creators have been more vocal about it. Those are the people you can reach instead by sharing, for example, this kind of post. It will have a far greater impact

Smaller, additional tips

  • Do not fall for the Anchoring Effect (Cf. The recent issue where they heavily increased requirements for publishing 2D items and pretended to lower it later. This is one of the most basic corporate strategies that people still fall for.).
  • Do not underestimate the impact of this whole ordeal about Roblox. I am on the DevForum and I will strictly remain on the topic of Roblox, but the more mature people know (or will realize) that some of the issues in society are very tightly linked to this kind of issue we have right here, yes, on an online platform like Roblox. Impact is greater where money is.
  • Do not blackpill. Your opponent is a multi-billion dollar corporation. Things will ALWAYS seem like they are not going your way, and it is normal. It does not mean that you are not having an impact. (And if things seem to be going well, refer to the first tip of this list again, be cautious.)
  • There is no “taking sides” on this topic. Do not be fooled if anything of this sort is ever attempted in the future. We are simply users demanding to be respected by a corporation.

Feel free to share this around, and reply with more ideas if you have any.

That seems about right, like what my response was. It’s high time to file for binding arbitration if you’re able to do so.

i havent been affected this but its actually stupid that they are using ai bots, the investors are thinking that the ai is next evolution and stuff

Finally some good news: Roblox actually listened and reinstated my account!

I can’t say everyone else has had the same fortune, but hopefully Roblox actually listens or at the very least reinstates your accounts in the future.
