Avatar and Inventory Failing to Load Consistently on Join

I’m experiencing an issue that recently started happening again over the past few weeks even though this wasn’t a problem before; this same thing also happened back in 2025 and was reported around August 2025 so it feels like it might be coming back again. Whenever I join any game my avatar always loads in as a default noob instead of my actual avatar, and only very rarely will it fix itself after I reset or die but most of the time it just stays as a noob; at the same time my gear inventory won’t load at all when I join so I can’t use any gear, and even if it eventually loads after rejoining a bunch of times it will often disappear again after I die; the only way I can temporarily fix it is by leaving and rejoining over and over sometimes 30–50 times until everything finally loads which obviously isn’t practical; I’ve noticed it more on accounts with larger inventories and there aren’t any helpful errors showing up so it doesn’t seem like something on my end; I understand gear itself isn’t really maintained anymore, so before this gets brushed off or shut down, this isn’t about gear being broken, it’s about the fact that my gear inventory isn’t even loading in the first place; I’m asking that this actually gets looked into and fixed because right now both avatar loading and inventory loading are clearly not working the way they should.

Expected behavior

I expect my avatar to load in correctly as my selected appearance every time I join a game, and my gear inventory to fully load on the first join and remain available during gameplay without disappearing after death or requiring multiple rejoins; overall, both avatar and inventory loading should work consistently and reliably without needing any workarounds.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate you pinging staff on this. Here are a couple games where I can consistently see the issue happening: Use Your Gear | Play on Roblox
and Underground Base | Play on Roblox
It basically happens in any game that allows gear, not just these, but these are the ones I play the most with friends. From what I’ve noticed, some of my friends with smaller inventories don’t really run into this, but since me and my other friends have a much larger gear inventory we deal with it pretty often, which makes me think inventory size might be part of it I’m not entirely sure. Also just to clarify, this wasn’t happening for the last few months at all, it only started again around the last couple weeks. This same issue was pretty bad back in 2025 and then it seemed to go away for a while, but now it’s showing up again. I know the previous thread was marked as fixed, but based on what I’m seeing it feels like it never fully went away or maybe it’s come back.

Hi IIAJII - thanks for flagging this issue! We recently have been migrating Avatar APIs to a more secure framework and found a bug that was causing users with large gear backpacks to hit a new lower timeout threshold.

We’ve shipped a change to remove the lower timeout threshold and believe this should allow users that have large gear backpacks to load into games as they were doing before.

Let us know if the problem persists. Really appreciate the detailed post that helped us narrow down a bug fix.

Thanks for the clarification, that actually lines up with what I had in mind about there being some kind of time window where the avatar and inventory are loaded in, so I appreciate you explaining that and pushing a fix for it. That being said, I’m still running into the issue pretty consistently, and it’s not just me either, I’ve had multiple friends with larger inventories experiencing the same thing, and even today I was in a gear game where other players were actively asking why their gear wasn’t loading, so it definitely seems like the problem is still affecting people. It’s been going on long enough on my end that I’ve even had to start buying and using gear on an alternate account just so I can reliably load in and actually play, which obviously isn’t ideal. I understand a fix was already shipped, but it seems like there may still be something causing the loading process to fail or cut off early for larger inventories, so I just wanted to ask if it would be possible to take another look at it or potentially raise the timeout threshold or allow more time for larger inventories to fully load, since it doesn’t seem fully resolved yet.

@nimniteshyamalan Sorry to tag you again, just wanted to follow up since it’s been a few days. The issue is still happening and seems slightly worse, my gear won’t load in even after an hour of multiple rejoins, and others are reporting the same. Do you know how long fixes like this usually take or if it’s still being looked into?

This has been happening to me too. In any game that supports gear, my avatar and backpack won’t load unless I respawn my character several times. I have 305 gear.

I’m also consistently getting this issue in Natural Disaster Survival, even though that game doesn’t support gear.

Dang with 305 gears that means you have higher chance of spawning in with gear than me. I have 1,031 gears and it’s gotten to a point where I have to rejoin 60 to 90 times just to spawn in with gears. It’s so bad that I had to start buying gear on my alt account just so I can fight and play around. I’m a gear collector and a gear fighter and I’ve been active in this part of Roblox for a very long time and it sucks for me because I specifically play gear games.

I made a gear loader script that scans your inventory and loads all your gear in, this game is uncopylocked and the script is easy to add in games, hope this helps.

@gcheck14552 Sorry to tag you, I wanted to bring this up since I saw your response on a similar report where this was marked as resolved. The issue appears to be related to the avatar/inventory API, where my gear and avatar data aren’t fully returning when the game tries to load them, especially with a larger inventory. In many cases, nothing loads at all, and even after repeated rejoins, when data does come through it’s often partial, with items missing beyond what should normally be returned (including duplicates). This lines up with the previously acknowledged timeout/threshold issue, but it seems like it’s still persisting or not fully resolved. Could you or the appropriate team take another look or confirm if this is still being actively worked on, since it’s currently preventing normal gameplay? Thanks

Hey thanks for responding back to this thread - let me investigate further to see why things haven’t resolved

Alright thank you I appreciate it. If the lower timeout threshold was already removed, could this still be hitting another backend limit (like request timeouts, pagination caps, or partial inventory responses from the Avatar API)? It might be worth checking if large inventories are still being truncated or timing out during fetch, since the behavior looks like incomplete data is being returned rather than a full failure.

Hi, there sorry to disturb you but I have a odd question but would you have time taking a look at if you have time it’s a bit urgent. I wasnt able to find a other way to contact somebody about this.
