Back into Building (Updated)

I recently snuck back into the world of building after taking a break for finals (I passed) and I decided to start working on a city, which then turned into a map for someone. I am just doing the roads, and so far it is going good.

The first mistake I did was use the wrong scale completely, but that was easy to fix. All I have right now is an over-pass, but I really like where I am going with the road system.

If I could get some criticism from you guys that would be great. Here is the place :

Edit: Cars are just for scale.

Looking good, I like the style you have going. You might want to make the ramps wider (and possibly not quite so steep, the car couldn’t get up most of the time), but other than that I think the sizing will work pretty well.

One thing - please make sure the final cars don’t drift as much as the ones you have there now. Besides the drifting those cars are really good - some of the best I’ve ever seen on ROBLOX - but they are hard to control with precision, which you need on those roads. :stuck_out_tongue:

The style isn’t bad, but the ramps are incredibly steep. I find that not exceeding a slope of 4 degrees is best for roadways.

4 degrees? That seems incredibly shallow

Roads generally aren’t that steep in most cases.

Unless you’re getting roads which are marked like this (in the UK at least):

Well the road is currently at 20 or 25 degrees. i will lower it to 15 and see if it works better.

The Eisenhower Interstate System grade standards, via wikipedia:
Maximum grade is determined by a design table based on terrain and design speeds,[1] with up to 6% generally allowed in mountainous
areas and hilly urban areas with exceptions for up to
7% grades on mountainous roads with speed limits
below 60 mph (95 km/h).
Posting this for reference since not everybody might be aware about the relation between grade and angle:

(From Wikipedia)

It might seem that way but trust me, once you build more of your map and see your slopes with the bigger picture, it’s much more realistic. Take this from someone who only builds driving games

Well The Grade and angle chart really helps, the thing is I don’t know how much room I will have. I am going for realsim, though, so I will change it.

I have decided to turn the roads into a kit that anyone can use. Each road works on the 1x1 scale, and can be rotated. I built every style of road that I could think of (The straight sections of the, corners and intersections will be in the next stage) I don’t know if I will add dirt roads or not. Can you guys think of any other road styles that I didn’t include? I don’t mean things like round-abouts or over-passes, those will come in stage 3, i just mean styles of lines and different things. Just the straight parts of the road. You can come here and check them out and person:

Or grab the first stage yourself and see how it looks.

Hopefully everything makes sense with them. Some technical things, each road is 60 studs long, and either 40, 60, or 100 wide. White dashes are 15 studs long, 15 studs apart. the crub is included in the measurement, and although it thus makes some lanes smaller, the effect is very very small.
