There has been a lot of posts scattered across the forum discussing this, and this post is meant to compile them while providing some live demonstrations (see attached private message)
Volleyball Legends has been using the opencloud BanAsync feature for the past couple of months and has banned tens of thousands of exploiters through it. However, the ‘realtime alt account detection’ seems to need some work
With the large number of bans we get, we also get people constantly evading these bans. After talking to a few people who are banned, I’ve learned it’s quite easy to avoid an alt account ban (see message attached)
Expected behavior
For alternate accounts to be banned, regardless of time created, email or no email
I would love to see alternative account detection improved to prevent these players from creating additional accounts. From what I could find publicly, detection currently uses an AI model, which may explain the easy bypassing. Support for Mac address banning or even IP could be a great addition
It simply does not work. I have tested it numerous times, reported bugs with it numerous times, and it has yet to be improved. I provided numerous example cases of 12+ alts bypassing detection. I have tested it myself logging in/out of accounts on the same PC with a ~9% detection rate. This is the detection rate without running bypass software, resetting IP, restarting PC, clearing cookies, deleting appdata, etc
I have contacted the team responsible for this system and provided countless example cases for them to improve it, still it remains ineffective. They tell us numerous times that they are working to combat alts, exploiters, account farmers, bad actors, etc yet none of the metrics ever improve in these areas.
I’ve privately uncovered various issues on the platform and there is ultimately one conclusion I stand on that ties into everything you just said. It’s very simple to explain. Roblox contains some ticking time bombs. It is set up by very intelligent people who operate the platform in San Mateo California and these people know Roblox better than all of us do. They are aware of the same thing I have become familiar with. The ticking time bombs. Every issue on Roblox is a ticking time bomb. They do their best to hide this fact. They wait for the bombs to explode before doing anything about it to fix it. They essentially wait until the very moment when they have to fix something to actually fix it. They cover it up and act like it doesn’t exist. There are other developers who I’m sure have also discovered this but what are we going to do about it? Nothing. We get the privilege of seeing the bomb show go off because ultimately it’s on Roblox to actually fix the root of problems rather than for us to do so. They’ve set up this forum to be a little sandbox for us all to play with and talk amongst each other while it all unfolds. Their engineers are overworked and the reality is they are outnumbered. There are more problems than there is the power and will to fix them. The only way Roblox can improve is by hiring more employees and investing more valuable resources into the people who run the platform. Not just investing in big technology.
Hi folks! I’ve passed this info along to our team working on alt detection. As several have pointed out, alt detection is ultimately a hard problem—folks who don’t want to be found generally will find ways to evade detection, and we do acknowledge that.
That said, we are continually working on improving our alt detection models, and while I would love to disclose some of what we are working on behind the scenes, I hope it’s understandable that we have to keep things under wraps to prevent reverse-engineering as much as possible. Sorry about that, but I promise this is on our radar! As we roll out changes, we anticipate that you will see users banned with BanAsync in your experience propagating to alts more and more effectively over time.
I appreciate the quick response and am glad to hear it’s in the works. If you need any example accounts or other information, I would be happy to send it your way
