Beginner looking for critiques and tips

Hello! As it states in the title above I’m very new to building, while this isn’t finished as I’ve only put in around 3-4hrs into it so far, with trying to understand hotkeys and how things generally work. I’m just looking for what people think I may be doing wrong and as well as maybe any tips for me to improve. I’ve been a bit unsure if I should be posting this since it is no where near finished lol, but I decided to leap anyway because I’ve just been having so much fun messing around.

Here’s what I have so far:

I mean, I think it looks great. What style are you trying to achieve, do you have a reference image? This was much better than my first time building: I began by sticking some wedges into a sphere and called it a cactus.
The curves on the stairs are very nice, as are on the poles. Maybe show me how you did them? They look awesome. Honestly, you’re not doing anything wrong; and it’s okay to show something that is a work in progress.

Tbh the stairs look pretty decent for it being in progress, I suggest adding little poles on each step of the stairs to where the curvy part is, it’s pretty small add on but would give the stairs a nice touch. Here’s a reference that i found on google images that may help

Yes, I am going from a reference. It seems like the house is Victorian.

I’ll definitely add the poles when I get time to work on it again

If that is your reference then I’d say you’re doing great, again! Just like what Blizzei said, adding in poles would improve the look. Assuming you’re already working on finishing the house, Possibly add a railing, make the posts surrounding the stairs a bit thicker, and change the floor to have a wood texture. Hope this will help!

Thank you! I’ve recently added the railing as well as made them thicker with wood texture. I’ll pretty much go onto making the wall that goes at the bottom of the decorated poles, not sure what it’s called exactly . Along with the bars to connect those poles together, not sure how I’m going to do the same pattern in the picture, but it’ll be fun trying to think of a way to achieve it.

I can’t give you any feedback on your build until you are done.
But I can give you some tips though!

  1. Always anchor your parts when you place them, and get into the habit of doing so, unless you want your build to fall apart at the end.
  2. If you are going to use a free model, check for viruses, and make sure you edit the free model in some way. Or even better, just use it for reference.
  3. Use pictures for reference.
  4. If you want to make more realistic builds, or low-poly, then invest some of your time to learn Blender 2.8
  5. Don’t spend your entire day making builds.
  6. Have fun!

I will keep all of this in mind along with updating how my progress is going as a way to see my progress. I actually have blender already downloaded and a few courses for me to watch when I have the time to play around in it :relaxed:

I think the poles on each step should be in the shape of a cylinder, because the rectangular ones make it look more modern. Other than that looks great, just don’t give up three days into the project no matter the temptation
