Best illust for my card game

I’m developing a card game. A few days ago, I set a topic about using AI. Then I decided not to use AI, but I have another problem now.
The theme of my game is nature, and I want to emphasize rearity.
When I painted for card illust myself, it was too rough. It may take so long time to learn painting.
I found some stock images about real animals, but I’m not sure it is good to use them as is. Also, it is not comfirmed that there is images with good composition.
There are some people saying this(I also think):
I like to see people put effort into games and images, and not just type prompts.

This is my painting.

This is a stock image.

This is a stock image I edited.

Now, what should I do? I want other people’s opinion. Which choice is the most attractive for players?

  • Paint by myself
  • Use stock images as is
  • Edit stock images and use them
  • Give up to emphasize rearity(change concept)

The illustration definitely looks the nicest. But the question is how long does it take you to make that? If it takes a long time, you’d need to think about whether you’ll even have any time left for the other parts of game development.

This reminds me of PilotRedSun’s work.

It took 15 hours to paint, and I’m planning to make over 100 cards.(each card has a own illust)
Finding and editing stock image was so fast. It took only 20 minutes.

The painting seems good. I think you’d like it more if you added more textures.

Like a wood texture for the tree (if you make the tree a lighter color) and that wrinkly elephant skin for, well, the elephant.

Many people voted for my own painting.
Which this mean? My painting is more real than others, or it is simply more attractive and I should stop seeking rearity?

The cards do resemble them a bit. I haven’t seen these videos in years - I actually tried searching for some a while back but I couldn’t find them. Thanks!

The one you painted feels more charming and speaks more. Could just be that the other two images aren’t the strongest (to me at least), but the painting seems very nice - especially in a set of multiple same-styled cards :ok_hand:
Probably will take a lot more work to create though  Up to you (and others)

Thanks for your replies! I will try to draw myself.
I’ll probably set a topic like this(when my game is near by completion), so I’m glad if you send me feedbacks again then.
