One of the issues I have encountered while using the revamped asset manager is with bulk import of an asset that has multiple object parts to make up one asset. Attached in the image below is the original object in Blender.
However, once importing this particular asset through the revamped asset manager (with import preset set to Last Imported/Studio Default), the asset parts are imported “on top” of one another, which seems to be that the importer is importing each object individually (Image attached below).
I am unsure if I am missing a selectable option in the revamped asset manager or if this is a new issue introduced by the revamped asset manager that wasn’t an issue with the legacy version with bulk importing.
the new asset manager is terrible, i imported an audio through it and now i can’t find it. why do i have to search through a heap of junk to find anything?
@superglue There’s some new options to allow you to retain the old behavior! In the import dialog, there should be a setting: “Insert Using Scene Position”. Toggling this on will make sure the asset is positioned the same as in Blender. Then, you can change your import preset to “Last Imported”, and set that as your default going forward, so you don’t have to change settings again. There’s also a right-click menu in the Import Queue to apply that preset to all queued imports.
@scooter_user Sorry to hear about the poor experience! Would be happy to hear about any feedback you have to improve the tool. In the meantime, may I recommend the following options:
You can go to “Recents > Uploaded”, and that should show you those most recent audios you’re importing. This view should be almost the exact same as the legacy Asset Manager; please let us know if things are missing!
To find any asset, as long as you know which account (user or group) you uploaded it to, you can search for it either by name or asset ID using the search bar.
To reduce clutter, one thing I like to do is take all the old assets I have (you can bulk select using shift-click, or right-click > “Select All” once everything is loaded), and then put them into a folder (I like to use right-click > “Group Selection as Folder”). This should reduce the top-level clutter in your inventory!
@Stuxfian we won’t be able to support the old Asset Manager as it’s becoming increasingly hard to maintain and blocks some other improvements to Studio, but we suggest a workflow here that we believe should be very similar: [Beta] Revamped Asset Manager Updates: Drag-and-Drop, Custom Rows and More. Happy to hear any feedback on how to improve this for you as well!
The import queue is a known friction point that we are taking a look into currently! Thanks for the patience y’all
Thanks for the detailed feedback! These are the kinds of perspectives that help our team iterate and keep making the product better, so we appreciate it.
To address your concerns:
The import queue is a known friction point and we’re looking into improvements there! Please stay tuned for that.
I hear you, that’s how I prefer the separation, too. We hope with the new Asset Manager, we can allow this organizational structure as well as others, as everyone has different mental models and ways they like to organize. As a quick way to get back to that old structure though, you can take these steps:
Go to Filter and filter for 1 asset type.
Right-click > Select All, or click the first and then shift-click the last asset to select all.
Right-click > Group selection as folder
Thanks for the feedback on the slider UI! I’m forwarding that to the team as we look into better ways to discover and label AM’s features
We have a fix soon coming for these pop-ups not displaying outside the AM window! This will improve the context menu and tooltip UI.
Noted on the feedback of the column-resizing behavior! I will also forward this to our team working on improving the tool.
Discoverability is something we’re also looking into, so stay tuned for that . We’re hoping to have an answer that helps with learning any tool in Studio, not just Asset Manager!
understandable, the only thing that bothers me really is just the import queue which gets forced to be a seperate window,
maybe when you import, it will automatically go here on this tab and just load the assets as its getting uploaded, like how the import queue worked with the old asset manager
Is there any way to retain the PackageLink of an inserted asset?
Currently if you create a package from Explorer and insert it through the Asset Manager, the inserted model does not have PackageLink, effectively breaking the linked package. It also makes it harder to discover the package associated with it.
Why has Asset manager become so dysfunctional ?
I can’t upload an image.. it says uploaded.. but can’t find it in my decals, or Images.. and neither in my Asset manager of any location.
I have seen so many updates to Studio over the week - almost 4-5 times a day.. saying “restart to update”.
Why so many times really beats me.
Even now with these updates.. every time I do tests.. EVERY TIME.. I have 4-5 plugins open up.
Hey! Sorry to hear about the difficulties. You may have seen many Studio restarts due to some unrelated issues happening at the same time. This should no longer be happening as frequently.
I’m not sure what is happening with all your plugins opening up… but this shouldn’t be related to the Asset Manager. I recommend filing a bug report for that so it can be routed to the respective team!
The UI of the Asset Manager has changed a lot due to the newly added support for folders and ability to manage in your user account and your groups, as well as support future efforts like versioning. But we understand the difficulty of finding those new assets!
If you want an experience like the old Asset Manager, I recommend following the steps here: [Beta] Revamped Asset Manager Updates: Drag-and-Drop, Custom Rows and More
Using Recent → Uploads, you should be able to have a similar “upload & poof” experience (they will always show on top, if sorted by Date Created/Modified)
Heard, we’ll actually be working on fixing this next (making it so that the Import Queue does not need to open in a separate window)! Please stay tuned
alright, thanks for your efforts;
it will be nice if the importing assets function will be close as possible to to how the old asset manager does it as most people do prefer that
