Bidirectional functionality to converting a regular place to a group place

I imagine converting a regular place to a group place is already on ROBLOX’s backend to-do list given the feedback on the original group games thread, so this thread isn’t going to touch on that. Even if it isn’t planned, if and when converting a regular place to a group place is possible, it’d be great if that functionality was bidirectional.

For instance, I have a group called “Wardens” which is more of a name snipe than anything else – it doesn’t serve a purpose. I’d love to throw it out for the taking to both clear up group space and allow other people to put that group name to use. The problem with that is I’ve used the group as a development hub. I created group places there so I could restrict it so only myself and my test accounts could enter the places, and so the places wouldn’t appear on my profile (made before Add to Profile). If I put that group up for the taking now, whoever claims it will have access to all of those places. A similar situation a friend talked to me about is that he wanted to give a group to his friend, but not the places. The places were developed by him and someone else, so he doesn’t want the person he’s giving the group to to have them.

If the conversion of places from regular to group was bi-directional, in both of those cases, we could move the places to our profiles and out of the group, making it safe to give away the groups.

I want this more than ever now.

ROBLOX has discontinued support for personal servers, rendering me unable to associate places with my groups. I do not want to lose precious datastore information just because ROBLOX decided to discontinue a service and then rip it off my group page. I cannot just move over a year of datastores over to a new group game. I do not want to lose the favourites I’ve accumulated. I should not have to create a new game just to do this.

At the very least, allow me to convert from a regular place to a group place. Personal game association was removed and no alternative method took its place.

There is currently a way to convert a regular place to a group place but there are some restrictions, see here.

I remember reading that only games with 1M+ visits would be considered for the process (I might have been going crazy if that was never the case), which isn’t an option if that’s the case because several of the games do not have 1M+ visits.

It still doesn’t resolve the problem for non-RBXDev members, but thank you so much for showing me this again!
