Bogie+Rocker with Differential Bar

and for those with extra curiosity, I have uploaded the place:

Excellent.

Hehe, I played around with that for like ten minutes. And it even looks almost as good as mine, too. I wonder how Peathis’ will be different if he does one.

And now I want to try again. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll probably have to strip a bunch of details.

Hey, I got it working with the full detail rover!

This is using manually instantiated rotate objects instead of surface hinges. I used the same joint configuration that you used. For the connection between the bogie and the rocker, in addition to a hinge, I’ve also been using a glue object as a spring. This adds a bit of force to the bogie when it pivots, but prevents the bogie from flipping over in a lot of circumstances, so it’s worth it to me.

It only works with all the details thanks to the local detail replication system I already had in place. If players start jumping on the rover or getting near it, and their clients start to try to handle the physics with all the details on the client, there would be issues. For this reason, it only really works well online, ironically. It’s not very smooth testing locally.

nice job with that! I especially like the 2D diagram of it in the corner (although it appears to only show one side)

I am curious though why you say “almost as good as mine,” because mine is missing the multitude of instruments on the top of the rover, the RTG, and various other things.

Haha, that was a joke. :stuck_out_tongue: Yours is much more minimal, obviously. I think it actually does a better job of communicating how the suspension system works, though. In part because it’s minimal and broken down, and also because the levers that connect to the rockers are slightly longer, which exaggerates the movement of the differential bar. Mine doesn’t move as much as yours.

And thank you! The 2D diagram shows up when you’re at the driving console. It does show the other side and also some other GUIs, but they’re cropped out. I made the window super wide and flat so that I could make the gif resolution smaller and so the GUIs wouldn’t be in the way.

Edit: I realized I haven’t linked the place. Here that is; you have to step on the teleport pad to get to the drive place.
