Bring Back Old Ribbon Style For the Next Gen Ribbon

Update on the Custom Tab Builder Plugin

I have created a plugin to allow developers to create their own advanced tabs, making it easier to create these sorts of tabs by themselves without waiting for me to update them. Give it a shot!

Ribbon Tab Builder | An easy to use plugin for creating custom tabs for the Ribbon

Hello!

I have created a list of .json files that brings back the layout of the old ribbon to the Next Gen Ribbon. It doesn’t contain all of the old tabs, but contains some of the most used and requested ones from what I’ve seen. If you wish for me to add more, feel free to reply, and I’ll look into it.

Also, feedback is appreciated! I especially hope this is useful for the people that still haven’t gotten used to the new layout, or simply want something closer to the old one.

I highly recommend you use these with the compact mode as well.

The Test Tab:

The Script Tab:

The View Tab:

Note: Certain buttons/menus may not be visible in certain conditions. For example, Team Create related buttons will only show up when the place is in Team Create mode.

I can’t remember which tab it was, but didn’t one of them look like this?

That’s the View tab, I made them image buttons without labels to make space for other buttons. Many people from what Ive seen prefer it this way.

Script tab is notably missing Reload Script and Go to Script Error

Not possible for me to add them atm.

I’ll check with the team to see what we need to do for them to be exposed to Add Tools. They both accept shortcut bindings so I assume it’s possible.

Thanks! Would be great to see them under the “Checkbox” type. Or perhaps a new component?
Also, I do wish we had a way to see all of the available properties such as PluginId in a way though. Would make my job of adding them easier without doing too much hacking.

Try going into Quick Open and running Print Actions  We used to have this available in the Manage Tabs UI but took it out since it was kind of obscure.

That is obscure, but a cool tool I never knew existed!

Where is the test tab? Belive me or not i used that very often.
Also this could be a me prob lem but the little icons in the model tab (asset manager, toolbox etc) dont work for me, only when i add them separately.

That might be a bug then. I have no control over the buttons and what they do besides the styling unfortunately. Might file a report for it however. (You can also file it, if you have access and the time.)

Also, I’ll see what I can do with the “Test” tab. I’m still waiting on the few remaining options and components from the old Ribbon, so I can update the tabs to be closer to the older ones.

Oh alright, ive tried recreating it myself but i couldnt find some of the features, best case scenario, they make stuff like this built in when it fully released.

I don’t think built-in tabs will change much, as it’s not the direction Roblox may go. And I think the current ones are fine for most people anyway.

If they deliver the new components, I can make them very accurate to the old layout, however.

Fair enough, pretty sure they did mention adding more customizeability (hope i typed that right) somewhere in the forum post, + multiple people asking for similar stuff so yeah i guess we’ll see what happens. also ty for making this

Thanks for making this, will help muscle memory get used to this new UI better
Though gotta agree, wish the Test tab was here too, used that very often before.

Having to press the little viewport options gear icon to get to these settings is a bit, unintuitive? Can’t explain it well, its just off imo, they should’ve been moved into a new Tab (or the Test tab). At the very least you can set shortcuts for the things you use frequently

i hope you keep updating this, the test tab is really important

Added the test tab! Make sure to check it out.

@MeshOfPaul Will you guys ever make the LeftMezzanine tools available in the tabs? Some really good ones simply don’t work in tabs unfortunately.

This will make the transition significantly better

Is there any reason in particular why small buttons organized like this fail to work? It seems any button that’s smaller or stacked with another loses all functionality

I’d file a bug report but I don’t know if this is an unfinished feature or a bug that’s already known about.

That is a bug. Ive reported it to Paul already through DMs. Hopefully should be fixed soon.
