A friend of mine has a somewhat confusing issue related to their username change feature. Their user id is 900156319 and as with many users they have multiple usernames over time. The issue is that when they attempt to change to to “Zbn” which is one of the usernames they previously had the system falsely says it is in use. What is particularly strange is that “MINECRAFTEUR2000” and “cIemouches” are two of the other former usernames that they can normally change back to. This is how username history features are supposed to work, and they have footage showing that this works as expected for those names. This indeed looks like some kind of an unresolved issue that needs to be worked upon. The system for name changing usernames should allow all users the ability to reclaim any of their usernames provided they had previously changed to long as it is in their history. The fact that for some users the system works, while for others it does not work suggests that there is likely a problem with the system logic designed to verify ownership of usernames through history?
Could someone investigate why “Zbn” is being marked as unavailable when it is supposed to be accessible through and somehow fix the problem because it’s really confusing?
He asked me to post this bug here to bring awareness to the issue. Maybe could this be looked into would extremely appreciate it.

The issue preventing my friend from using his previous username to be fixed, and allow him to use his previous username.
That could be whats causing this weird glitch. The thing is my friend has had the “Zbn” username way before the newer one you have specified. But still this doesn’t answer much on how this has happened because once a Roblox username is in use no matter if it got changed or not it would stay on the first claimer of the usernames account. Unfortunately unless something is done this issue would never get fixed permanently leaving my friends previous username rendered useless. Roblox themselves state once a username is in use it may not be used again. I really hope this could be looked into and a simple fix could be just resetting the glitched accounts username so my friend can use his username again.
I am pretty sure the name being “available” again is fixed/patched but the bugged accounts are still using the bugged name like for example the “new” ZBN with user ID 7183174803.
In my opinion this is probably a alt account which used some kind of bug or exploit to intentionally gain this username since it’s also in the name snipe group
Back in 2023-2024, there was an exploit regarding Roblox Support to social engineer agents into resetting someone else’s username, making them believe it was inaproppiate. When support reset the user, it would make it available for someone else to claim. It seems like someone targetted your friend’s account to claim his 3 letter username. That’s why his username was reset at one point to roblox_user_
no that’s not the case here, this was a bug with roblox which caused the name Zbn to be available (with different capitalization because the “new” zbn was first name ZBn) which is now patched but the “duplicated” name is still on the new account which is the problem
One of my alt accounts also has this issue, i have a previous username that i have had for a few years in my username history and it states that it is “already in use”.
Despite it being in my username history Roblox support never could understand the issue i had with my alts previous username and still remains unresolved.
It’s been a problem with my alt which has the username “duc” which i am unable to change back into. (UID: 4296103153)
Thats kind of crazy its literally the same case for you as it is for “Zbn” and “Aes” i have no issues like this whatsoever. However stated by xm0 it could’ve been apart of a glitch where upon changing a username it could’ve been reused under a different capitalization. But even if that is the case Roblox doesn’t allow more then one account under the same username so hopefully it can be fixed!
