Can I flag posts for trying to steal solutions?

In #help-and-feedback:scripting-support I will give an explanation of what was going on that caused the code to not work, but then afterwards someone will basically copy my solution but including it in a script without explaining it. I intentionally don’t include code because usually it’s not necessary.

So am I allowed to flag posts that do this?

Yes, I think a flag should be allowed, because this has happened to me before and it’s quite annoying. Sometimes people will copy all my advice, rephrase it, and then add an image.

Especially when I explained it more thoroughly…

EDIT: If the “copy” made the situation more clear to the OP then I guess it would be okay. But verbatim posts aren’t okay.

I think it should be allowed as it essentially counts as spamming. If the code was at least commented or it was broken down into lines that were explained, then it’d actually be helpful. Otherwise, I only see it as spam trying to steal solutions and clutter up the thread.

No, helping someone visualize what a solution looks like by adding code can be helpful for some users. I don’t think it’s fair to decide what is and isn’t necessary when you aren’t the OP.

I think that if you explain it very well (which I did) a code example is not necessary and everyone is able to know how and where to fix the code. By just pasting it with little explanation it is hard to know where and what was changed.

No.

The whole purpose of replying to topics is not to get a solution, but to help OP. You shouldn’t get angry about someone stealing your solution.

The flagging system is meant to notify staff when there is a bad post. If someone posts the exact solution you gave, I think it’s pretty fair to flag it. Otherwise, they’re not breaking the rules.

This is against the rules. Posts can get taken down by staff when someone provides code without explaining it.

That isn’t the point but it’s good to get one because you took time out of your day to help a user. You didn’t have to but you chose to. That means a lot

Then this is all I need

No unless someone copied the message 1:1.

Im actually strongly against this in a situational way so hear me out.

I believe the solution should be the best / easiest to replicate way for some alien reading the post to be able to perform, if the OP thinks that they can phrase it / make it more clear precisely how the problem was solved then they are doing something constructive by doing this.

Doesn’t matter what the marked solution is, that’s for the OP to decide what best helped them. You can flag a post if it doesn’t actually contribute to the topic and contact Community Sages (or flag as well) for threads that mark an inappropriate or otherwise unhelpful solution when there’s others available.

I get this so many times.

I tell them something and advise them, then 2 seconds later, someone who says the exact same thing comes along and walks away with a big ol’ Solution.

I think you should be able to flag it, depending on the type of copy it is, whether it is a direct copy with no changes, a direct copy with some changes or just a rephrase.
