I was wondering if this is a thing that can happen or not, I’ve gotten mixed responses, some say yes, some say no.
Let’s say someone uploaded something inappropriate to a group, the asset is moderated, will the group owner get punished as well?

I would say no because those bypass groups use alts to upload content just for it to get moderated and the group owner never gets punished
But i heard if the content gets reported with DSAs reporting system then the group owner could get moderated aswell but normally i think only the uploader will
It is very much possible, in the case this did happen I’d report the person who made it, contact support, blah blah blah, as there has been cases where the owner has gotten banned for this reason before.
Thinking about it, not sure if support would help, but hiding it wont help anymore so maybe getting support would be a good idea.

Yeah, I feel like this is a more case-to-case basis instead of a collective “one shoe fits all” sort of thing.

Most likely yes.
The group owner is responsible for anything being uploaded to their group.
