A member has been removed from our studio and I was wondering if he could DMCA our game with the scripts he made. Since a lot of the scripts aren’t his and edited by others, how could Roblox know which scripts are his or not?
- If they do DMCA your game, you can just counter it.
- If he did DMCA, it would likely be rejected anyway due to lack of evidence and well… the fact that most of them are not his scripts!

To DMCA a game you need evidence that a staff member can verify. AFAIK they have no special access to your game so would not be able to see the code.

Ive seen a game County Jail Roleplay get deleted because a developer was fired and claimed the game was his. You can fight back but they need solid evidence that they were the lead developer or owner.

How would they get that evidence? And also Im going to reword all the scripts, wlll that be good?

It would be very very difficult unless they for some reason have recordings of themself working on the game… I said “due to lack of evidence” in my first reply because I very highly doubt they would be able to even obtain any in the first place - let alone something that concretely proves that it’s their work.
If I were you, just block them and ignore them, then don’t worry about it because:
- They likely won’t have any evidence
- They likely won’t bother to DMCA
- Their DMCA would likely be rejected because how the hell would they even prove that and highly doubt that’s even a valid argument (“you’re using my scripts that I willingly put in the game… but now me sad so DCMA!!!”)
- IF their DMCA SOMEHOW gets accepted, you can just counter it and forget about it - unless they take you to court but realistically that very very very rarely happens on Roblox unless the game in question is very popular or the copyright involves a non-Roblox real-life company

If I wanted to recode it just to be on the safe side, could i just rephrase all the scripts with ai if game release is urgent or do i have to change like the positions of the scripts, the layout etc

Definitely! great idea, that would remove the problem entirely - because he can’t DMCA code that AI wrote.

It simply means that Roblox moderation sucks.
They take everything in and ban people (and games) for no reason

It’s not like you stole his work, his IP, he worked for you, produced the code for the group, for the game. In my opinion, this means the code he wrote is owned by the group, not himself.
Roblox has “Version history” on scripts, but I’m not sure they can access it without permissions.
In any case, you should likely be fine even if he tries DMCA

There’s no reason to DMCA, only if they’ve somehow became incredibly mad. They’ve also WILLINGLY scripted for you.

I think they will probably DMCA us or leak the game file, but what I dont understand is that it was a group’s scripts not just his, so how can he do that?

How much do you think it can be similar without getting dmca’d? Also couldnt I just DMCA the local scripts of another game by downloading them since theyre on the player’s computer?
I know right, its actually horrible. I once got banned for a bright orange tshirt!
I got banned for calling a.shirt money because it had a money sign on it.
