Can't archive Decals uploaded around mid 2025: "Unknown Error, please try again later"

Archiving a Decal from the Creator Dashboard fails every time with the toast “Unknown Error, please try again later.” The Decal is not archived.

The request behind the button returns a 500 Internal Server Error:
POST https://develop.roblox.com/v1/assets/{assetId}/archive
Status: 500

First seen October 2, 2026 (around 22:40 UTC). Still failing after many retries.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to Creator Dashboard > Creations > Development Items > Decals
  2. Click the three-dot menu on an affected Decal
  3. Click Archive
  4. Toast appears: “Unknown Error, please try again later.” The Decal stays active.

Details:

  • Affects multiple user-owned Decals uploaded around mid 2025 (for example June 3, 2025). All of them fail the same way.
  • Asset Privacy state: Open Use
  • Looks similar to the 2024 report “Cannot archive old Decals” (same toast, same 500), which was fixed server-side.

Browser: Google Chrome on macOS. Same result across retries.

Asset IDs: I’d rather not post them publicly since I’m archiving these to stop them from being reused. I can send them to staff privately.

Expected behavior

The Decal and its linked Image would be archived.
