CastShadow property provides brightness?

I’m trying to make a realistic night vision system, but I noticed when testing it that the CastShadow property actually provides light to enclosed spaces… why is this? And can I fix it?

When it doesn’t cast a shadow, it’s darker (because its night time).

When it does cast a shadow, its brighter.

How does that make sense?

im not sure but it might be because it reflects the light
