Avatars and game icons/thumbnails (from tr.rbxcdn.com site) do not load for players located in Russia/Russian Federation.
The bug happens despite having no extensions enabled/installed whatsoever.
I can confirm that this is happening to me, and it is also happening to my friend from Belarus, so at the moment I believe that something happened specifically with Eurasia, and not with Russia.
Using a command that allows us to see DNS Resolve using DNS of Yandex (biggest Russian infrastructure provider) (77.88.8.8), we do not get Addresses field, which should show IPs of a server.
As well as I would like to add up, that this issue is probably caused by Russian internet filters (TSPU / DPI systems) and not simply a local DNS error, as it is still impossible to resolve IP even by using Google’s and Cloudflare’s DNS servers
I also would like to add that here, in devforum, images haven’t been loading for me ever since Russia unbanned Roblox on june 3.
Apparently RosKomGovno forgot to unban this part of roblox, as they previously banned all websited that contained the word “roblox” or were somehow connected to roblox (they even banned roblox wiki, not related to this bug report though)
What’s weird enough, the assets type are loading just fine. I mean, sure, since it uses different provider, but if that gets blocked? We are screwed for good and cannot play games normally.
как я понял, это что то роскомнадзор чудит ибо это как я понял это действует только в России, наверное как обычно, забанил один сайт, а пострадал другой, ну или роблокс снова готовят к бану (не дай бог)
The problem is with DNS resolvers - for some reason, they can’t resolve this domain. Neither Google Public DNS nor Cloudflare ones do. Even AdGuard’s public DNS servers don’t work. The only one I’ve found that resolve it correctly are OpenDNS public servers.
I have reason to believe that both of these major DNS server providers are filtered and partially blocked by Roskomnadzor itself, so these servers may not work correctly most of the time.
(Edit: I found out Yandex DNS seem to fail too, as I’ve checked using nslookup command in CMD, so it’s probably some bigger deal rather than a factor of three foreign DNS server providers being filtered and partially blocked. OpenDNS is still the only working solution for me)
Pretty sure this can be marked as current solution. (unless Roblox themselves can do something about other DNS servers unable to resolve their thumbnails cdn IPs). Changing DNS server to OpenDNS on all of my networks fixed the issue.
If they are preparing for a ban, they’ll gonna have to suffer another wave of letters that primarily aim for Roblox to be unbanned. But to be honest, if chat is disabled, what reason to continue for them?
Can also confirm, images don’t load at all both in web version and the client, and also in studio. However, doesn’t relate to gamepaly at all, nontheless, gets annoying while trying to use toolbox, for example, to get decals for particles or textures in studio.
Waiting for a fix, roblox!
