This issue affects Pal Hair, Lavender Updo, and Chestnut Bun.
In May 2021, Roblox removed the VertexColor property from all accessories that utilized it. This left accessories that used VertexColor to aid in their appearance with only their texture.
This change made Pal Hair and Chestnut Bun redder, and Lavender Updo no longer lavender!!
One of the other accessories affected by this change, Tiny Egg of Nonexistence, had its texture edited shortly after the change to retain its original, blue appearance. The textures of these hairs should follow suit and be changed to match their original looks.
(FYI, these hairs are not the only items still affected by the removal of VertexColor. Brainfreeze is another example of this. I, unfortunately, do not have a full list of affected accessories, so went with these hairs to report, as they are the most popular items affected by the bug.)
Would be nice to see this change!
Honestly I would love to see them just reupload these items as new items so that both versions exist at the same time.
Thanks for flagging this. We’re investigating this right now. These items are so old that no one really rememebers why they were made the way they were, and why the changes were implemented.
We started looking at the Lavender Hairdo. We noticed in Studio, the original hairs are pink when unequipped and lavender when equipped. And the updated one is pink no matter if it’s equipped or not. And if we apply the original texture to the new one without vertex color, it becomes lavender no matter what.
So what we think happened was the original was meant to Lavender (duh!) and the vertex color makes it pink. Somehow, equipping it will remove the vertex color effect and change it back to lavender.
Obviously, lavender was the original intended color for this hair, but many, many users have also gotten accustomed to pink. If we change the color back to lavender, many people are going to complain. We can release the pink one on the side, but some people may not know to get it. Keep in mind this affects thousands and thousands of users, because this is a widely used item.
We’re going to discuss internally what to do about this. Stay tuned.
You could widely release the lavender hair as a free item, and give it to all current users of Lavender Updo (though, perhaps give it a purpler name to differentiate the two.)
Something similar happened with the Headless Horseman head, where a mass transfer would undergo and all of us now have the Dynamic Head version in our inventories. I’m not sure how big the owner list is on Lavender Updo and if it would be technically possible but it would definitely make sense to give users the old customization they had before.
That or, just release it as a normal free item, a majority of free items Roblox releases manage to stay on the bestselling for months with barely any promotion afterwards you could even push a notification to current owners. Lots of possibilities with this that I think players would love, the appreciation for older Roblox is something we cherish
I believe that, since applying both colors to the left and right sides can be aesthetically bad, leaving the purpose of being pure lavender, and changing colors from pink to lavender and vice-versa, can create a chaotic scenario for those who have been using it for a long time and/or are currently using to express themselves as of right now, there can be two options:
Apply a new color:
Changing the hair color to either Pink/Lavender can cause complaints for both sides. That said, having a third color could be an alternative. The third color would be the difference between the color hexes:
2.1. Lavender = #B58ED5
2.2. Pink = #E39AD1
To do this, we would make an addition from each RGB value of these colors and divide by 2. The result gives it:
2.3. Light Wisteria = #CC94D3
Might be easier to keep the pink version as-is, and release the lavender one on the side for free. Doesn’t change players’ avatars, and anyone who wants the old color is only a few buttons away from getting it back!
With how easy it is for anyone to grab, there’s +170M Lavender Updo owners.
