Changes to the Games Sort Order

Hey Developers,

Starting today and over the coming weeks, we will be running a test on the sort order for the Games page. Our goal with this test is to determine how we can surface the best content to our players.

Depending on your account information, you may see a variety of sort orders changing. For example, you will notice that we are surfacing Featured and Popular Near You higher on the Games page.

Roblox will be closely monitoring the impact of these changes.

Best,

Roblox Developer Relations Team

PS: This is not an April Fool’s joke.

This is an interesting change, and I think it’ll have a decidedly positive impact on the relevance of games on the front page! I’m looking forward to hearing your results, and hopefully we’ll be able to encourage smaller developers to grow and get a more diverse and interesting game selection!

This seems pretty cool! But what would popular near you mean?

Will this filter out the misleading games that are causing havoc on these pages?

I’m glad you’ve clarified this.

I hope we’ll be able to adjust these sort orders in a more final release to ensure the best needs for specific types of users.

Will this change help new or obscure games get attention?

I think this is an amazing change! Hopefully this helps a lot of games get more popular!

Well as the name suggests, it will show games that are popular near you.

Feel free to message me if you’re still unsure as to what it means.

Pouplar near you would mean games that people play, who live around in your area. Basically if your town played ROBLOX, the most games that they play would be popular near you. Hope I helped.

The popular near you sort has always been by country. It’s not that specific.

That’s a pretty welcome change! The games page looked bland for a while so it’s nice to see it being more fresh

Ah, I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. Either way still concerned why my whole country plays meep city.

Oh I see! At least I will know what people in my area enjoy

Does the age matter, by information I’m guessing it also includes D.O.B? Does that mean I’ll see 13+ type games?
(if so what kind, like more violence)

It is certainly still an interesting statistic regardless.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s no such thing as 13+ games unless I missed a website update

There are been nearly constant talks about Roblox introducing some sort of age rating system. This may be a step towards that.

Sounds like a promising initiative. Looking forward to seeing a wider variety of games and the opportunities that come with a more dynamic front page sort.

I know although they haven’t implemented that yet. Since it’s not a thing (and probably won’t be for a while too) I don’t see any reason to mention this now.

If my memory serves me correctly, Roblox already somewhat sorts based on popular in your age range (<13 or >13). Pretty sure there was some sort of A/B update on that a few months ago.
