Chat filter has gotten noticeably worse in the past week

The chat box is basically just a decoration that takes up 1/4 of the screen

I’ve noticed that the word ā€œmasterā€ has been tagged on its own. I can’t even say the word ā€œHooverā€. I’ve also noticed that when I say the word ā€œDiskā€, like in ā€œDisk [number]ā€ it comes out fine, but as soon as I start mentioning ā€œDiscordā€, all traces of the word ā€œDiskā€ get tagged.

I found a probable temporary workaround:

If your chat gets 1984’d, type ā€œ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;ā€ in. I have no idea why it works, but it does.

No. They are in a sticky situation. People expecting for ROBLOX to magically be able to instantly police every corner of their platform of almost half-a-billion accounts without so much as a hiccup is likely the cause for this.

I miss the old day when they’d tag a few words, that way you could know if the filter was bugging. It took me like four tries to figure out what the hell was the issue with the sentence ā€œWould you like me to run a physical?ā€

The issue was ā€œyou like meā€ in that sentence.

Speaking of that…
Before they used AI for chat moderation, as it turns out, there was a .txt file within the Roblox client which was responsible for chat moderation. Essentially a list of banned words, and as far as I remember, only the banned words would be tagged instead of the whole thing.

I genuinely don’t get why they changed, its illogical and hugely inhumane to just block everything rather than telling us which part was wrong. They should know how unreliable it is, so at the very least we should know which part of the string was censored.

Developers have had the issue for longer than players have though, we’ve never had the luxury of individual words being tagged when updating game descriptions, it just rejects / censors the whole thing

I’d like to join:

Instead of this chat filter, it’d be better for them to revert it back to the better, yet older one, which didn’t tag everything, but tagged the words specifically that were bad, for example:

based off of the ā€œcrapā€ tag right now:
ā€œman im having a ###### day right nowā€

Instead, it’s being put to ā€œ####################################ā€ā€¦
and it is just annoying.

they most likely did it how it is today because you could VERY obviously see what someone’s trying to say when they chat ā€œ#### youā€ or something

the solution to that is to randomise the length of the tagged part of the message, or better yet add random spaces too for further obscurity!
